Five Oaks (Nelson) 2015 ChardonnayReview written for Five Oaks (Nelson) Chardonnay

A very nice, though not exceptional, chardonnay. Nice fruit, good balance and integration. Very drinkable.

Review written for Five Oaks (Nelson) Pinot Noir
(29/10/12)
Wow, good Pinot Noir for under $15! Honest wine true to the variety without the boiled sweet taste of some affordable Pinots. I'd call it 'drink now' wine. It's more fruity and charming than complex and long. This Pinot goes with anything, even itself.

* Temple Bruer Langhorne Creek Preservative Free Verdelho 2008Review written for Temple Bruer Langhorne Creek Preservative Free Verdelho (Product not available at this time)

This is a lovely wine and very good value. To me this verdelho is like a cross between a good chardonnay and pinot gris. Purity of fruit, tropical flavours. Looks beautiful in the glass too. If you haven't tried verdelho this is a great introduction. Give it a go!

I've had a few really good Gris lately (mostly from the Villa Maria stable) and this example is average in my view. Nice pure fruit and quite drinkable but not stellar. Good value for money though.

*Mills Reef (HawkeReview written for Mills Reef (Hawke's Bay) Riesling. (Product not available at this time)
(29/10/12)
The nicest riesling I've had in 2012. Lovely floral aromas are followed by a real citrus and apple zing, almost spritzy. The only reisling I've had that was markedly better in the last 2 years was an expensive Clare Valley effort.

* Sea Level Home Block Pinot Gris 2011Review written for Sea Level Home Block Pinot Gris (Product not available at this time)

One of the nicest Pinot Gris I've tried for a while. Not complicated, but very nice wine to sip on the deck and it works well with a variety of fish, chicken and Asian dishes.

...actually, exceptional value for money. Smooth, rich, classy blend with a long, satisfying finish; big but not over-bearing. This is a great wine to have with any red meat dish.

* Craggy Range (Hawkes Bay) Kidnappers Chardonnay 2009Review written for Craggy Range (Hawkes Bay) Kidnappers Chardonnay (Product not available at this time)

This a classy chardonnay! My lady and I found it powerful with lovely ripe peachy flavour with very nicely integrated biscuity oak. Definitely one of our favourite ever chards.

Castillo Varez (Chile) ChardonnayReview written for Castillo Varez (Chile) Chardonnay (Product not available at this time)

We found this to be very simple (unwooded?) chardonnay, not particularly varietal and a little too zesty for our tastes. We think people who like the acidity of Riesling will like this. There are a lot of chards out there that are better tasting than this but the price is good.

Review written for 3 Bridges (New South Wales) Shiraz (Product not available at this time)

Big, juicy Australian shiraz. Only a few top Penfold's shiraz I have tried recently have bettered it.
