Barren Rock (Central Otago) 2016 Pinot NoirReview written for Barren Rock (Central Otago) Pinot Noir

Just cracked one on this hot Canterbury arfo. Soon as you open the bonnet there is a distinct Pinot nose. And it drinks ok too. It would be one of the better Pinots that I've bought for less than $16

I really liked the 2009 vintage, was very disappointed in the 2010, but decided to take a punt again! While not up to the 2009 it certainly has some depth to it however don't drink it as soon as you open the bottle or you will get a totally different impression.

While it does have floral flavours it doesn't reveal them until about room temperature. When cold it tastes more like a Pinot Gris to me. Not my favourite but I'm fussy about Gerwuzt and at this price it is ok.

Not sure about this one. Not unpleasant and has typical syrah pepper underneath an initial sweetness. All the flavour seems to be in the top front of the mouth but there is a lingering flavour. First Marlborough one that I've had and maybe just too used to an Ozzie. Just had the second bottle and it was very nice!! I was surprised when I read my review above! It has mellowed and is now rather nice!!

I wasn't overly fussed on this one especially as I'd also bought a couple of bottles of the Sangiovese which was much nicer
