Five Oaks (Nelson) 2014 Pinot NoirReview written for Five Oaks (Nelson) Pinot Noir
(13/10/14)
This is the 2011 vintage which is drinking pretty well now, I have sampled the 2009, it was superb and this one doesn't let the label down. A nice smooth fruity after taste on the palate, easy drinking, it benefits from letting the bottle breath for a few minutes after opening to get maximum flavours and enjoyment. Would recommend and would buy again, especially at this really great price, has to be the best value for money, quality Pinot on the site at the moment. Thanks Tracey and the Team at Winesale

Cab Sav, I either love them or stop after the first glass. This one never had the top put back on after opening, a great match with the medium rare beef off the Barbie, great deep plum colour, hung beautifully in the glass, great nose and after taste on the palate, my very fussy mate loved this one and managed to finish the bottle before I realised so I'll certainly be looking to replenish the wine rack with this one very soon

A pleasant Riesling without being fantastic, I chilled it well down however I think it improved a little when it sat a while and warmed a little. A very full fruity taste and nice aromas

"Don't cry for me Argentina" even when you first taste this magnificent Malbec blend, BIG, fruity, dense red colour, great after taste. I opened this one with a few mates around, they were drinking whites, two of us supped this one, then I quietly removed the bottle after my first taste just in case they decided to switch to red (life is too short to share your best reds with other than yourself !!!) Buy this one if it's still on sale, you won't be disappointed.

I'm not the SB fan in this family however Mrs Action Hero reported this one very enjoyable with a clean crisp SB nose and after taste, she allowed me a wee sip so I could honestly write this review, so who am I to contradict my darling wife, after all she enjoyed the whole bottle and asked if there was any more, so what better recommendation does one need to buy another case and earn the browny points???

Whitehaven (Marlborough) 2015 ChardonnayReview written for Whitehaven (Marlborough) Chardonnay
(17/12/13)
A nice full body Blue cheese on crackers, sun shining out on the deck before dinner, good conversation and a couple of bottles of this Chardy will kick the evening off nicely. A very good example of a Marlborough Chardonnay with sufficient oak (not the rich buttery extent, but you can't win them all,) compliments the other elements of this above average Chardonnay. Don't bring it out if your friends are avid Chardy fans because they'll want more and you'll have less to share with yourself.

Wow wow wow.... This wine matches its elegant simple label and the quality, smoothness and absolute value for money is superb. Ideal for making a great impression with your mates, wrap it in a brown paper bag and have some fun with them trying to guess the label (and the price you paid) They just won't believe you when you show and tell...

Review written for Lake Road (Gisborne) Chardonnay (Product not available at this time)
(06/09/17)
I bought a case to add to my weekday quaffers and first taste was a little disappointing, however after a few seconds the mellow and subtle fruit flavours finally came through. The label reads "well balanced on the palate by a crisp acid lifting the citrus and stone fruits to a very round, full, long punchy fruit and toasty finish". You'll probably wait a while for the "crisp acid" and the "punchy toasty finish" but a very pleasant Chardonnay from a region recognised as the Chardonnay Capital of NZ. Good value for money and I will definitely order again.

I was a bit nervous buying this little number at the price you specialed it at initially so when I opened the first bottle it was a very pleasant surprise. The rich Chardonnay colour and the unique fresh taste very quickly abated any concerns I had about the quality. The lingering Chardonnay aromas and taste lasted well on the palate and hinted of a quality 2 or 3 times the price paid for this little beauty. The Label is a bit plain and tacky looking however it's what is delivered when in the glass that matters. Thanks Winesale for another great valued wine making your selections the best online source there is.

Soft and smooth, delicious Pinot fruity after taste plus a hint of chocolate and spice, ideal with any red meat dish or just to sit and relax with on a warm aftenoon after a day of toil. These bottles came clean (unlabelled) but arrived in the Wineries Estate carton. This wine is from a prominent Martinborough boutique winery that has won many gold medals for past Pinot vintages so get in quick before this is sold out, highly recommended. Winery notes say this vintage will cellar well for another couple of years

I have tasted some of Matahiwi's other labels and enjoyed them immensely. Their Mt Hector label is the Retail label and the quality doesn't decrease, this Chardy has pleasant fruity flavours with very subtle oak after taste. Very well priced and enjoyable as a daily quaffer with some nice cheese or chicken and pasta dishes. If you like Chardonnay then this one will tick a few boxes for you however other labels at $25 plus will of course deliver different qualities.

* Lammastide (Marlborough) 2011 ChardonnayReview written for Lammastide (Marlborough) Chardonnay (Product not available at this time)
(09/10/14)
MMmmm first taste of this trusted Label (I have purchased Lammastide label in the past and haven't been disappointed) was "where's the oak?", especially with the label reading "aged in French Oak for 11 months" and then it came a few seconds later with a smooth oaky after taste that lingered on the palate. Nice straw colour in the glass and very pleasant to the nose. The second glass improved after taking the temperature slightly below room by way of a cooling sleeve around the bottle. A pleasant Chardy that will drink nicely with a creamy pasta or chicken dish, to share with special friends or just to sup on whenever you are thirsty. Recommended by this fussy Chardy drinker, would buy again.

What a great Label name for this Rose.... "Sophie's Kiss" made me wonder just who Sophie is.. A very pleasant drinking Rose, must be served chilled to enjoy the best elements of this Rose. A nice crisp taste, very pleasant on a warm evening while slaving over a hot BBQ. Would purchase again at a reasonably value price

Probably worth three and a half stars if I could, this one needs to be shared with some nice pasta or a creamy chicken dish but is a little harsh by itself to drink if you are thirsty, the "toasty oak" is a little lost within the other predominant flavours. Great price and value for money, thank you Wine Sale for another value Cellar 9 label

High priced bubbles are wasted on me, it's Mrs Action Hero who enjoys them and her response was for me to purchase more of this vintage, so who am I to disagree. The couple of glasses that I did partake were impressive and the bubbles were nice with a strawberry at the bottom of the flute, good value, low cost brownie points as well with Mrs AH, recommended.

Once again I have tried a Nelson Chardonnay and I'm impressed by the quality and price. It's a good every day drinking Chardy, not too acidic and develops a smoothness on the palate after the first couple of sips, a nice Chardy if you are thirsty, recommended, you can certainly buy worse at a more expensive price

My faith in Wine Sale to deliver a quality wine in its House Label has not been reduced with this quality Pinot at a steal of a price. After opening and letting it stand for a few minutes the enjoyment started with the first sip. The smoothness and flavours from this stunning Pinot made me feel guilty for paying under 15 bucks. I would love to know the actual vineyard it comes from however thank you Winesale for giving me the opportunity to purchase this Martinborough PN at such a great price. Highly recommended to other members, get in quick before everyone finds out about this beauty.

This is the first PN I have tasted from Nelson and I must admit personally I was more than impressed. I only had 1 bottle of this wine and was tempted to put it aside for another 12 months but I weakened and was pleasantly surprised. I also read some of the other Reviews to see how my first thoughts matched and I agree with most who have reviewed, this one is showing promise and I'll probably purchase within a mixed case in the future. Recommended buy

A little bit disappointing this one, its colour suggested it should have been a very fruity flavour however it lacked depth and "zing" on the palate, I like my Rose served quite chilled so it filled the purpose while cooking the Barbie but others have fared better

Mrs Action Hero is the SB fan in this family, so when she asks for "that nice Nelson Savy you buy for me" I know which one she is talking about. She rates it a 5 and I'm in trouble if there is none in the rack when it's being asked for. I must admit I have had the odd glass (when she's not looking) and I could be tempted away from my favorite Chardy for this one if there was no other choice. Recommended buying and value for money, especially if the Missus likes it...

Always one of my favorite destination vineyards at the Wine Festival so I'm a little biased when drinking their wines. This one doesn't disappoint and has a very modest, earthy after taste with subtle aromas that above average PN should exhibit. Recommended drinking for Martinborough wine fans.

Certainly a lot of flavours and aroma going on with this one, a little bit of bitterness on first sip however as the wine breathed a little the flavours hit your palate and it mellowed beautifully and it matched perfectly with a beautiful roast chicken served outside under a dead calm Wellington sunset. Life is too short to drink cheap wine... buy this one, you won't be disappointed, unless of course you hate PG....

This is a pleasant "summer Rose wine", I like Rose well chilled and this one certainly benefits (who doesn't chill their Rose's???) I Found out when I shared this one with a mate who had been put off the Rose experience by tasting only at room temp in the past. A pleasant refreshing taste.

Straight 8 Estate (Canterbury) Chardonnay 2008Review written for Straight Eight Estate Chardonnay 2010 (Product not available at this time)
(27/11/13)
First sip from first bottle my first impression was "this is OK but not over different" however after 20 minutes and resting after opening the flavours and texture improved and a little bit of the harshness mellowed and the rest of the bottle was quite enjoyable. I like my Chardys soft and oaky with no "stainless steel" after taste and this one almost delivers this after opening so a good one to sup while cooking the Barbie I think, or if you're thirsty then don't hold back either.

A "Reserve Chardonnay" at under 10 bucks, my first thought was "Tui Ad", however once the top came off the first bottle the other 11 didn't last too long. A very drinkable, mellow and delicious Chardy suitable with most matched dishes or just a quiet one after work on the deck enjoying the evening sun. Great value from a reliable wine estate and label.

While I'm a little cautious buying a wine with no previous reviews I have great respect for Te Kairanga products and this one doesn't disappoint. This Chardonnay is well matured and is very drinkable now with just a slight hint of oak and smooth undertones that makes Chardonnay the distinctive wine that it is. Interesting to note there is no reference to the Te Kairanga branding on the labels, wonder why?? The Castlepoint label is not listed on their web site either, obviously their end of run label marketed so it doesn't detract form their premium brands. Anyway still good quality Chardy at a great price.

Once again Winesale has come up with a great quality Pinot for their Cellar 9 label and as value for money for an everyday drinkable Pinot you can't go wrong with this little number, nice and smooth, lingers on the tongue and the second bottle is even better than the first. Keep these selected wines coming please in this label, best value for money you can find.

A very nice "drinkable" Riesling if you are thirsty and who can quibble about the price? I have full confidence in Winesale's Cellar 9 labels, have purchased a few of these now and you can't beat the value for money for everyday drinking wines at great prices and quality to match. Keep them coming please. Regarding delivery, order placed at 12 noon, delivered to my door at 4pm same day (Wellington),pretty slack really, I think you need to sack your Courier for a faster one LOL!!!

I always have a few bottles of "week night" quaffers on the top row of my wine rack and this Chardy fits the bill very nicely. It has a very nice smooth finish in the mouth and unlike many other "cheap wines" you don't have the stainless steel after taste of the fermenting tanks still in the bottle. If you enjoy Hawkes Bay Chardys then this one certainly won't disappoint and at the amazing price of under 10 bucks you can't go wrong. Will definitely be back for return purchases as long as this label is available and of course no excuses needed for continued "week night celebrations"

Wow, what superb Pinot for this price, I took it to a friends place in a paper bag and asked him to guess a region and a price he would pay. He rated it as good as any Central Otago Pinot and said he would gladly pay $20+ When I did a show and tell he was immediately on the 'puter and ordered a couple of cases. Top value, superb quality

LAMMASTIDE: The Time of the Festival of the Harvest (Google is my Friend !!) The wines selected for the Lammastide labels are all great quality and this mixed case represents a selection of 4 of the top quality reds and whites available from Winesale, especially the very drinkable Oaked Chardonnay which I highly recommend. A nice crisp Sav and two very mellow, soft reds set this mixed case apart and I highly recommend this value for money mixed case.

My preference has always been Marlborough Sav's over any others however having sampled this particular Nelson vintage I'm slowly changing my mind that there are now some great Sav's outside Marlborough. This 2009 vintage is very ready to drink now and won't get any better, it's still very crisp and matches well with some nice Thai cuisine or just on the deck in the sunshine, especially if you're thirsty. Very good value at under ten bucks.

As a "House Brand" this rates very well and is very good value for money. This 2007 vintage is ready to drink now and will not get any better in the bottle over the next 12 months (in my opinion of course). The hint of oak comes through very nicely and it is this that lifts this wine from ordinary to a recommended purchase.
