Whitehaven (Marlborough) 2015 ChardonnayReview written for Whitehaven (Marlborough) Chardonnay
(17/09/14)
Really nice example of Chardonnay which isn't too sweet or oaked. Lighter style which has more citrus to it and doesn't over do it on the "buttery chardonnay" which have been coming out. The straw smells and citrus fruits also come through in the taste. Great with any kind of cheese or fruit platter. 88/100 IMHO

Ciclos (Argentina) 2013 Malbec MerlotReview written for Ciclos (Argentina) Malbec Merlot
(20/08/14)
WOW, WOW, WOW, and WOW!! This was a BIG surprise and I take back all the nasty things I've ever said about Malbec/Merlot. From the moment I saw the bottle of this I knew I was in for a big treat. If you like big gutsy reds which you can't see through in the glass and stick to your mouth well after you've drunk them, you HAVE to try this. When I poured this into a glass for the first time I got very excited and could tell I was gonna love this wine... Lot's of Tannins and dark fruit flavours. Best Merlot I have ever had. Did I mention WOW! NOTE: This was the 2008 Vintage - 96/100 IMHO

Don David (Argentina) 2015 Reserve SyrahReview written for Don David (Argentina) Reserve Syrah

I can see why this Syrah from the Michel Torino has won a gold medal. Lovely reserve wine from Argentina and not sure how they do them this cheap! Deep red and purple in colour with Blackberry and plum flavours and a hint of vanilla in the well structured tannins. We had this with meat loaf and it matched well. 91/100 IMHO.

Michel Torino (Argentina) 2017 MalbecReview written for Michel Torino (Argentina) Malbec
(22/08/11)
I really enjoyed this Malbec from this Estate. This top notch winery seems to do fine things with all it's grapes to me. Whilst this doesn't compare to say, the Altimus, it is a fine example of Malbec wine with dark colour, fruit flavours and a nice pepper finish. Eat it with any Red meats and you will enjoy. 85/100 IMHO

Another fine example of how to make wine from Michel Torino. This Shiraz is full of flavours - Chocolate, blackberry, and coffe to name a few. A nice pepper finish and some smooth tannins come through. I drank this without food but I would match this with a roast or similar.83/100 IMHO

This is the first Organic wine I have tried which I enjoyed (although I have probably only tried 6 or so to date). Nice plum and other dark fruit flavours, with a Smooth, Spicy finish. I had this with a lamb dish and it worked well. Definitely worth the price itís being sold at. 82/100 IMHO

3 Bridges (South Australia) 2015 DurifReview written for 3 Bridges (New South Wales) Durif
(19/04/11)
This is something different and I must say I Loved it. When poured from the glass it has dark black plum colours and you can tell right away it's going to be a heavy hitter. Smells of spice and rich vanilla come through immediately. I was surprised when I first tasted this as I wasn't expecting the initial sweet fruit flavours of blackberry. These were quickly followed by rich chocolate and a spicy pepper finish. Nice tannins in here too. The glass had blood red tears running down the side after each sip. This is a glorious, luxurious wine and i didn't want the bottle to finish. I give this Vineyard a big thumbs up as their Shiraz was also top quality. If you're interested in trying something different, and you like Aussie Shiraz, you will love this wine. 93/100 IMHO

Altimus 2011 by Michel Torino (Argentina)Review written for Michel Torinos Altimus
(14/04/11)
Mmmmm..... Chocolate, Tobacco, Blackberries, Coffee, and Dark Plum Flavours. Sweet, but tart, with a pepper finish. Intense Dark red colours and tear drop stains on the glass after every sip... This Winery seems to tick ALL the boxes for me. This is one very complex and Indulgent wine with an abundance of flavours. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out all the smells and flavours coming through, but only 2 seconds to know I LOVED IT! I drank the whole bottle without food to really get a taste of all the flavours coming through (they kept changing!). I would recommend you match it with a nice Lamb or Beef meal - maybe cottage pie or similar. If you can, buy a case of this wine and hide it from everyone... 95/100 IMHO

Nice wine and definitely worth trying especially at this price. Nice subtle change from the Aussie Cab Savs i'm used to but still the dark colour and heavy weight with smokey, peppery finish. Fantastic with Red meats or BBQ,or probably anything smoked. 84/100 IMHO

With dark colours and chocolate, cherries, and spices, this is a fantastic Barossa valley Shiraz that's excellent drinking right now. Not that this affects the taste of the wine, but I absolutely love the label as well! What are you waiting for? YES - you should buy this wine... it's a no brainer, just do it. 93/100 IMHO

Differen't and delicious. Well worth trying. Dark purple colours and fruit flavours and smells. I can see why this would get voted worlds best Red. Not the Worlds best Red in my books, but a VERY good all rounder which most people will enjoy. Nice smooth wine with long finish.

At first taste I wasn't sure about this wine, but then it grew on me after I let it breath a little. Not a real heavy hitter and certainly a lot lighter than I was expecting. More of a dark garnet in colour and tastes of raspberries and earth. 81/100 IMHO

Dark cherry colours in the glass with earth and cherry smells. Not one of my favourite Pinot Noirs but still drinkable. We had it on it's own but I suggest it would be better with food such as a BBQ and aged a little (this was the 2013 vintage) 79/100 IMHO

This got replaced for the Mebus Estate Chardonnay which had run out when I ordered it. As I would not normally buy this brand (I don't like the label!),I'm glad it did. Does anyone else not buy wine with a label they don't like? Full Butter and Smokey Oak flavours with a nice finish. This really did compliment the Chicken Pasta we were having it with well. This is a great example of Gimblett Road Syrah with dark purple colour in the glass and fruity both in smell and taste, just the way I like it. I was pleased to taste some pepper and tannins in there too. I drank this wine after work but didn't match it with any food as I couldn't wait. It would go very well with a BBQ or Steak. Giving this wine 4 stars but would give it 4 1/2 if I could as it really is very good compared to other NZ Syrah, especially at this price! 90/100 IMHO.

Extremely nice Cab Sav from one of Australias best labels. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this one due to the price, but I was WRONG. In My Humble Opinion, this is on par with the top selling Evenwood Shiraz - Shhhhh, don't tell anyone our secret! Chocolate, leather, plums, tobacco, spices, and nice tanins, all mixed into a fruit driven wine with a deep garnet red colour. It also has a nice lingering peppery finish which went well with my Steak. This is another wine which will be enjoyed by most red wine, and non red wine, fans. I wasn't expecting too much from this California Chardonnay, but was very happy to find it extremely enjoyable. Surprise, surprise, a refreshing change from NZ Chardonnay and nice to try something different from another part of the world. While it doesn't compare to the top NZ Chardonnay's, it's still a nice buttery wine with Citrus flavours, and a long Oakey finish. It's only $9.99 a bottle as well! Not the usual Cabernet Savignon taste I'm used to and a little sour at the ending but certainly not harsh. Medium dark red colour. I matched this with meatballs and it was OK. 75/100 IMHO

This is a fairly light Cab Sav in my opinion. Light in colour, taste, and weight. Not the usual Cab Sav we're used to from Australia, so dont expect Big Gutsy Red here. It was very approachable and easy to drink but no long finish, tannins,or wow factor. It was nice to try something from another country I wouldn't normally try. For the price, it was a nice enough wine - 75/100 IMHO

Great looking bottle and an enjoyable wine. Nice Chocolate and Cherry flavours which would match well with lamb. I found this quite a light wine and not as gutsy as expected but still enjoyable none the less. 80/100 IMHO

Very nice Chardonnay. Smokey and buttery finish. Nice Oak and extremely easy to drink. I matched this with a smoked chicken, creamy mushroom pasta dish and it wa superb. While cooking the dish I added some fo this wine and it was outstanding! I can see why alot of this is sold - 92/100 IMHO

Unfortunately, my bottle of Estola was corked. I was really looking forward to trying it... :-( Fortunately, The good people at Winesale immediately sent me a replacement for free.. :-) Now that I've tried my replacement bottle, I can say that this wine is not really to my liking. Not as smooth as other spanish reds I have tried and abit rough at the end. It did get better over time having breathed for a few hours. Would probably be best if you decantered this first. 72/100 IMHO

Rasberries, vanilla, and even an aftertaste of aniseed... very good example of a NZ Syrah . I liked this wine but didnt love it. I had it with a steak and it matched well. If you like NZ Syrah's this is a great example and you will most likely enjoy this wine. I was expecting more guts and it didnt quite deliver for me - compared to a good Aussie Shiraz. In saying that, at Winesale prices it was value for $$$ - 82/100 IMHO .

We had this wine with a nice steak and found it a superb match. I am not usually a huge Pinot Noir fan but this one I really liked. It's not overly expensive and it really is a superb example of Pinot Noir from a great Martinborough vineyard. My wife also really enjoyed this and made me buy more! 90/100 IMHO

Wow - this is now my favourite bottle of bubbles. Great price for a great wine. This is extremely easy to drink and although it went down well with food, it is just as well suited to drink on it's own. Crafted by one of NZ's best and at a price which is worth every cent. Not too dry, and not too sweet. Be careful though, once you start you will want more!. 92/100 IMHO

Would give this a 3.5 star if I could. This wine is OK but doesn't match some of the other SM labels for weight. Oak, smoke, and subtle tannins but not the powerful finish I was expecting from a SM Merlot Cabernet. Maybe it's age has mellowed it somewhat. 82/100 IMHO

I purchased this wine due to the Air NZ awards rating. I was very excited about trying it, but was rather disappointed as it didn't live up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a very drinkable and enjoyable wine, it just wasn't as great as I was expecting from the top NZ Syrah. Maybe my expectations were too high or maybe I was just having a bad day but I much preferred other reds under this label I have reviewed. Not much weight and not as gutsy as expected. I did not match it with food as I wanted to experience it on it's own. I have another bottle which I will save for 5 or so years and see if it improves. 85/100 IMHO

This is a very nice wine and great example of Cab Sav! I have not purchased red wine from Argentina before, and didn't know what I was missing. Blackberries, spices, and Oak. Dark colours and nice tannins with lot's of flavour 90/100 (IMHO)

I really enjoyed this. This label would be my favourite for Big Gutsy NZ red wines that pack a big punch. I find most other NZ reds disappointing compared to their aussie cousins, but NOT this example!! Thick and Dark with currants, spices, and peppery finish. Will buy again especially at the winesle prices! 92/100 IMHO.

This wine was OK, but not as good as I was expecting. Rather lightweight compared to some of it's cousins and not as much flavour as the name suggests. black fruits, smoke, and subtle tannins but lacking in punch. 79/100 IMHO

Very nice example of how a Shiraz should be. Deep, dark, red colour. Smokey, chocolate, pepper, spices and full fruit flavours come through and last a long time. Nice smooth tannins.Very moorish and hard to stop drinking. I was disappointed when this bottle was finished. Watch out for the big punch from the high alcohol content too! I enjoyed this immensely. 94/100 IMHO
