Bell Bird Bay (Hawkes Bay) 2014 Syrah ReserveReview written for Bell Bird Bay (Hawkes Bay) Syrah Reserve
(20/09/17)
GORGEOUS, delectable Syrah! I don't normally like NZ Syrah, but this one ticks all boxes for me. Starts off soft then the back-taste rushes in. Delightful.

This is one of those smoothies that creep up and bite you with their quality. At first taste almost bland, and the nose hadn't kicked in, then all the flavours subtly crept in one by one. My taste buds were dancing, and so they should be! A terrific wine, worth the extra few bucks to enjoy quality. Recommended, and worth every star of 5.

Chateau Tanunda (Barossa) 2014 Eagle Rock Grenache ShirazReview written for Chateau Tanunda (Barossa) Eagle Rock Grenache Shiraz
(24/07/17)
I rate this as 'a very good quaffed.' Much lighter than I expected with the Grenache (to my taste) being the more prominent grape. If there were half stars I would rate it 3 . Still very enjoyable and slightly Euro in its structure.

3 Bridges (South Australia) 2015 DurifReview written for 3 Bridges (New South Wales) Durif

A blue blood wine, does everything your reviewers say it should, with bells! Needs a good breathe but when ready, whammo! Recommended.

Todo Loco (Spain) 2012 Reserva Tempranillo BlendReview written for Todo Loco (Spain) Reserva Tempranillo Cabernet
(22/05/17)
Very drinkable red! The grape mixture is so Spanish as is the luscious, almost sweet taste and afters. Very easy drinking and more-ish. Like and recommend. ADS

Michel Torino (Argentina) 2016 ShirazReview written for Michel Torino (Argentina) Shiraz
(11/11/16)
To my taste, bone dry, black, big and luscious. I serve this when I want to impress on OZ Shiraz drinkers that good wine does not have to be sweet. Slightly more expensive but worth every cent. Recommended. 4 1/2 stars

Gran Tesoro (Spain) 2013 GarnachaReview written for Gran Tesoro (Spain) Garnacha
(19/08/15)
Gran Tesoro (Spain) 2013 Garnacha Great colour and a slow nose, but for me, a lovely lingering after taste. I have had dryer Grenache wines, but I liked the mix here with Syrah. Gave an interesting complexity which I liked very much. A Go To Wine. Value for money? 5 Stars Overall drinkability? 4 Stars

Michel Torino (Argentina) 2017 MalbecReview written for Michel Torino (Argentina) Malbec
(23/05/12)
There's something about the Malbec grape that just speaks to me, and Michel Torino obviously speak the same language. They have bottled such depth and intensity here as to take your breath away. A fabulous wine and very good value buying. 4****

Gorgeous red juice, a true mouthful of gamy pleasure. Best value for money of all your reds. I have recommended it to dozens of red wine drinkers. Can you tell I like this wine?

Onto my third bottle and still wondering. Needs a lot of breathing and pays you back for the trouble. Lighter than I thought, dry to my taste and so different from the OZ reds we tend to drink. A distinct terroir and worth 3 1/2 but there is no 3 1/2 so 4! ADS

Royal Cottage (South East Australia) 2013 ChardonnayReview written for Royal Cottage (South East Australia) Chardonnay (Product not available at this time)

I like S Australia wines, even their Chardonnays, but found this quaffed just drinkable. Usually I can drink a good Chardy very slightly chilled but this one needed to be pretty cold. Still, value for money it has to rate at least 3. ADS

Royal Cottage (South East Australia) 2013 Cabernet MerlotReview written for Royal Cottage (South East Australia) Cabernet Merlot (Product not available at this time)

Good value for money but not a wine that pushes all my buttons. But for the price a jolly good quaff which gets better as the bottle empties. 4 stars for value for money. ADS

Le Chat Noir (France) 2014 ChardonnayReview written for Le Chat Noir (France) Chardonnay (Product not available at this time)

Nice dry Chardonnay. I expected a wee bit more taste but appreciate the dryness with food. So different from the NZ/fruity Chardies. and an excellent price point. 4 stars

Delicious Pinot Noir, fruity, smooth and moreish. Cleanskin lotto but we wre well rewarded with the cellar masters excellent choosing. Recommended. ADS

Archery (East Coast) Merlot 2013Review written for Archery (Gisborne) Merlot (Product not available at this time)
(13/11/15)
I bought this Merlot for the price point; unusual to get a NZ Red for a mid-price, but this one delivers. At first I thought it a bit light, but it has a lovely dry back taste, full of different fruits, and altho' dry (to my taste), very smooth. A nice wine at a very good price. ADS

Red Hill Estate (Australia) 2013 ShirazReview written for Red Hill Estate (Coonawarra) Shiraz (Product not available at this time)
(19/06/15)
I expected one of those 'rather light' Shiraz blends that are all the range these days and was knocked over by the lusciousness and quality of this red. I took two bottles to a dinner party where everyone was a self-confessed wine snob, and Red Hill scooped the pool of my fellow drinkers. Value for money: 5* Soft(ish), and un-mistakenly Shiraz, quality Coomawarra drinking, all for WAY under the usual $20-25. Highly recommended. ADS

Typicall beefy Hawkes Bay wine, luscious and interesting. Not refined at all. Nice aperitif.

I don't even like PN's all that much, but I gave this one 4*'s. Bigger than most, gorgeous fruit, but not too much, and slightly gamey with it. Excellent value for money. ADS

Wow, what a surprize! This wine packs a punch way greater than its price. A bit sweet maybe, but delicious with it, sort of nutty, a bit of nougat? Taste and value for money... 5 stars. ADS

WOW! This is exactly my sort of Chardonnay, lived up to its (Bob Campbell) tasting notes and more. A lovely, yeasty, tasty and luscious wine, with food or as an aperitif, delicious. I give it 5* rating and recommend it thoroughly. ADS

I bought two $14 Chardonnays, Birds of a Feather and this, rather insipid, way less that a quaffer. I could find none of the 'nose' and taste characteristics in your in house review, indeed. if it had not cost $14/bottle, it would have gone the way of the cooking pot! Bland and tasteless... to my palate, with and without food. But read my "Birds" review! ADS

I thought this a bit better than a quaffer. The testament? It all went so very quickly! Lovely easy drinking Shiraz, with a bit of complexity and a lovely herby? almost spicey taste to my palette. Not heavy.

An old favourite. It speaks lime and oil to me, yet it is not heavy. Room temp' or chilled I like it. Packs a punch way above its price. Value for money? 4 stars.

If there was an option, I would give this superb Riesling another 1/2 star. Gorgeous springs to mind with all sorts of intelligent flavours; (they say passionfruit, but I get soft lime, and a bit of apricot as well.) Yes, I have ordered more.

I liked it; would buy again, especially at the price, but it didn't knock my socks off. But don't write this wine off as ordinary, it still has some lovely rays of Central Otago sunshine in each glass!

WOW! My friends know I like Malbec but with the Benjamin Malbec, I have made suggestions about birthday and Xmas presents! STUNNING wine, eminently drinkable, but you just know it is going to get better. Highly recommended, and excellent value for money.

The last (and first) taste of Marc I had was in a Paris bistro. My tastebuds were smitten, and I now had an alternative to Cognac and Armagnac. This Georges Michel Marc brought back the taste and the bite of a very good Marc. I don't need all the fancy frippery of box and bottle, but recommend the Marc unreservedly. ADS

When I like a wine I sometimes guard it jealously from interlopers; why share with people who just wouldn't appreciate, right? This is such a wine! Superb taste at a great price.

Cheap and cheerful, nice taste but didn't fill my mouth as much as I thought it would. But it sure worked well (as was intended) in a Champagne / Brandy cocktail! Good value for money.
