Four 1/2 Stars - Joelle Thomson
"Deliciously great value from 'the California of Tuscany' aka the warm coastal wine region of Maremma. This is made from the Sangiovese grape; famous in Chianti and offering drop dead gorgeous bright fruit flavours with a savoury twist here" Joelle Thomson
Sangiovese is "the" grape of Italy. So many great wines have been made using this hardy variety. From Chianti to the new wave of "super Tuscan" blends. This wine could easily be labeled a "baby super Tuscan". A wine well worth trying.
Bright ruby red; characteristically varietal aromatics of cherries, forest fruits and spices, lifted by subtle aromatic herbs; assertively full entry, intense yet elegant structure and extract finishing attractively long with a reprise of the fragrant fruitiness and balsamic notes.
