Four Stars - Joelle Thomson
"What better way to start winter than with a fresh young Argentinian red made from the noblest of Spain's wine grapes? This is gorgeous soft Tempranillo tastes of warm raspberry flavours combined with an earthy, spiciness. It's brilliant value for money."Joelle Thomson

Four Stars - Warren Barton

"Anyone who has not yet become acquainted with Tempranillo (tempra-nee-oh), the basis for the famous reds of Rioja (ree-okka) in Spain, should try this budget-priced Argentinian version. Warm, soft and earthy with plenty of berries to charm the palate. A bargain." Warren Barton

Tempranillo is a black grape grown extensively in Spain and used to make lovely, full-bodied red wines. It is the main grape used to make the famous Spanish wine Rioja. Here is a stunning Tempranillo from one of Argentina's most respected wineries. Bright, clean intense red with tawny flints. Aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and mint chocolate. The palate is well balanced with soft, rounded tannins and generous finish. Enjoy!

I've tried a couple of tempranillos now and I'm liking this one. Not a heavy red but smooth and interesting. I'd buy this one again.

Right up there with other Tempranillo's we have had before. Not a heavy red but ideal for BBQ season as a wine to match with grilled meats and dishes like Paella. We had it with chicken breasts stuffed with olives, herbs, sundried tomatoes, chilli and garlic. At $12 a bottle it is more than a match for a lot of the $15- $18 reds on the supermarket shelves.

I found this Tempanillo thin and lacking in appeal. I love tempranillo as a wine but this did not hit the spot with me.

Beautiful gentle rounded fruit, simple but mouth-filling. Excellent value for money.

Three Stars "Hot value from a hot climate." Joelle Thomson
When it comes to getting fantastic Shiraz at bargain prices - the Riverina in New South Wales is top of the field. This region makes superb easy drinking wines loaded with ripe fruit - at $9.99 this wine really over delivers.

Merlot has gotten a bad rap as of late but there is no denying the wine's appeal. Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure. Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing and an obvious alternative to similar, more tannic Bordeaux varieties.
