17.5/20 Raymond Chan
"Full, near-saturated black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has an elegantly concentrated and rich nose of ripe blackberry and plum fruit entwined with notes of liquorice and cedary, toasty oak, along with hints of oak resin, eucalypt and chocolate. Medium-full bodied, the fruit flavours are a little restrained, but unfold to show sweet, ripe plum and liquorice notes. Blackberry, earth, cedary oak and eucalypt layers add detail. The mouthfeel is plush and juicy, and balanced by supple tannin extraction lending structure, presence and weight. The wine flows with underlying alcohol power, carrying to a fresh, sustained finish with liquorice and cedar notes. This is a weighty, ripe, supple Shiraz with restrained plum, liquorice and cedary flavours. Match with barbecued and roasted red meats and casseroles over the next 5+ years." Raymond Chan

Evenwood Barossa Shiraz has been our number one selling red wine for the last 7 years. The 2015 is a new vintage and is tasting better than ever. In the glass the wine has deep red and garnet hues. This follows through to a generous nose of spice, mulberry preserve, dark chocolate, mocca and vanilla tones. Complexity builds as the wine opens further with hints of earthy beetroot and tea rose. The savoury palate shows blood plums with sweet spice leading onto soft tannins.

Suitable for Vegan and Vegetarian diets

Quite possibly the best thing to come out of Australia since they began exporting camels to Saudi Arabia. Like those camels, this wine appears to have a pedigree not matching the low price tag. It drinks like a bottle easily in excess of $30, has a deep burgundy colour and an aroma that makes you think of cherries – but if you don’t like cherries then it smells nothing like that – and goes extremely well when snacking on beef jerky or dark chocolate. Thoroughly recommended and I’m definitely buying again.

This has to be one of the best examples of Barossa Shiraz at this price you will find anywhere. Deep, complex, rich flavours and worth every penny.

Excellent wine, highly recommended. In terms of tasting notes, it is very fruity and we've found that most people really enjoy it (even if they're not big wine drinkers). This is one of our staple bottles, so always include a couple of bottles in our winesale order. I agree the other reviews that it easily keeps up with $20+ bottles, and its one that we recommend to lots of our friends. Great value buying!

Tempted to give it 4.5 if system allowed. Definitely see why this is so popular and was great with the Veal Parmigianno and roasted Italian vegetables we demolished it with.

PICK ME PICK ME! If you are trolling through the Winesale site wondering which Shiraz to buy, you've found a winner here. If you love Shiraz, this is a superb example at a fabulous price. If you're not a habitual Shiraz drinker but you want to give one a shot then try this wee number. This is not a rough red, this is a smooth fruity Shiraz with a hint of chocolate. Drink it with venison or Mexican food or a BBQ or ...anything really.

These notes refer to the 2008 vintage: Overly fruit-forward Shiraz that screams sweet cherries and blackberries. Very light tannins, just enough acid to keep it from becoming syrupy; but otherwise I'd call it fruit punch. Overall we found it a bit too sweet without a lot of structure; better on the first sip but became a bit dull as we worked through the bottle. Your non-red-wine-drinking friends will probably love this wine, and you'll certainly be able to enjoy on it's own, no problem. I'd go with some peppered steaks off the grill with this one; you'll need some full flavors to match the fruit in this wine. Personally, I'll spend the extra $ and stick with the Temple Bruer or Westend next time. The 2009 vintage is much better balanced and less fruit-forward; almost a little light in character but more enjoyable (to me) than the 08.

This is the standard red wine around our house. A big beautiful fruit bomb. I’m a big Aussie Shiraz fan and this one is excellent value for money. Thoroughly recommended!

What a wine! This is a wine that has surpassed all our expectations and has now firmly cemented its position as the number one selling wine at Winesale.co.nz. Deep, dark and delicious with tonnes of blackberry, plum and spice, and is that just a little hint of chocolate? Yum! Quality Barossa Shiraz is hard to come by at this giveaway price.

Gorgeous red juice, a true mouthful of gamy pleasure. Best value for money of all your reds. I have recommended it to dozens of red wine drinkers. Can you tell I like this wine?

Evenwood (Barossa) 2014 Premium Reserve Shiraz

Evenwood Barossa Shiraz has been our number one selling red wine for the last 6 years and we are very pleased to offer the new Evenwood Premium Reserve Shiraz. This wine shows all the hallmarks of Barossa Shiraz in a balanced and restrained package. The fruit aromatics are all about red plum, cherries and savoury herbs. This is a medium to full depth wine with balanced fruit concentration. The palate is full of savouriness, texture, black olives and has an evenness flowing from start to finish. This is about being soft and supple yet also rich and textural; an even line of tannins completes the wine. Cellar for 5 to 7 years.

International Trophy - International Wine Challenge (2013 Vintage)
4 Stars - Joelle Thomson "
This juicy Argentinian star shows what great Malbec is all about - dark, dry, full
bodied and rich but also – surprisingly –accessible with its ripe berry fruit flavours. It’s a stunner for $20. Awesome buying from Argentina" - Joelle Thomson

Malbec is synonymous with Argentina. A country that inspires tango and flamboyance. Sweet aromas of raisins and plum jam outstand. Elegant touch of smoke, pipe tobacco and vanilla notes dominate the nose.
The palate is very well balanced with sweet and soft tannins offers an harmonious bouquet. Fruity attack full of plums and chocolate notes combined with sweet and soft tannins. Dry fruits such as almonds and nuts appear at the end giving a very pleasant finish.

4 Stars - Joelle Thomson "A meaty dark red with pronounced
grainy tannins, a full body and lots of life ahead of it, thanks to its muscular power.
This wine is good value for money, drinks
well now and is best served in a large glass to allow the air to soften its tannins; cellar
