4 1/2 Stars - Joelle Thomson "Barossa is best known for Shiraz and here it is again, only in a deliciously different flavour combination because it is blended with Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Carignan; all were separately fermented before blending and maturing in American and French oak. The result is an elegant and complex red along the lines of a very good quality Cotes du Rhone; it’s soft, spicy, warm and smooth – a beautiful all year round red wine with power and crushed velvet appeal. Delicious" Joelle Thomson
An amazing deal when you consider how much it sell for at the cellar door! Only 30 cases available of the classic "Chateauneuf du pape" styled blend!
This is a medium bodied wine with aromas of strawberries, cherries and subtle spice. The palate is well balanced and highlights lifted flavours of vanilla, cinnamon, black olives and pepper.
The Whole Dam Family celebrates the historic relationship between Chateau Tanunda, the Barossa Valley and its generations of grape growers and winemakers who love nothing more than to let their hair down and kick up their heels. The old image on the front label of the local winemakers dressed up celebrating the Barossa Vintage festival is a tribute to this tradition. This limited release wine was made for them by selecting The Whole Dam Family of meridional French varieties to make a red wine to reflect the Barossa: Shiraz (38%) from Stonewell, Grenache (28%) from Seppeltsfield and Tanunda, Mourvedre (27%) and Cinsault (7%) from Bethany and Vine Vale.
The grapes were picked, fermented and matured separately spending nine months in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak barrels. Cellar door price $40 Aus!
