A bit about me for starters - I've probably consumed more Zinfandel than anyone in New Zealand, and probably more than most Californians. I'm a Zin-fanatic. Love the stuff. It's not unusual to pay $30-40 for a bottle, and it's worth it. This wine is medium to light intensity purple in color with some brick around the edges. Aromas include boysenberry, plum, blueberry, and a bit of cedar. It has mild tannins, great balance, good fruit flavour, and light acidity. Finish is a bit short. My impression is that this is probably from younger vines with a relatively high yield. It represents everything Zinfandel should be, but is a bit light overall compared with Zins I normally purchase. Of course, it is 1/4 the price... Our overall impression of this wine is that it is GREAT value for the money and will give you an idea of what zinfandel is like. Buy some for your next BBQ as a nice change from Aussie Shiraz. Drink it now, don't cellar. If you enjoy this wine try to find some "old vines" Zin - then you'll really know what the fuss is all about. But for the price, there's no objection from this Zin lover about the quality of this wine. I'll be purchasing more.
