This is a pretty serious wine, so I eagerly awaited its delivery. Certainly checks all the boxes: Craggy Range brand, single vineyard, Gimblett Gravels - we're talking 'blue chip' style here. The vineyard for Te Kahu is apparently home to the 'Bordeau reds', so was expecting a European style red rather than the Australian reds we're used to. On tasting, the wine is rich and fairly sweet with a bit of tannin action at the end, which is fairly representative of the Gimblet Gravels reds. Definitely a quality wine and well suited to special occasions. Personally would match with some nice NZ lamb, but would roll well with most red meats. The brand is well respected, so nice way to impress visitors!
