Double Gold – New zealand International Wine Show

Winery note
"One of the few positives coming from the Covid 19 Lockdown during the 2020 vintage was the fact that our coveted Montepulciano enjoyed some extra ‘hang time’ on the vines. The fruit came in at a whopping 26 brix! This wine was nicknamed the MONSTERpulciano throughout its time in the Beach House cellar. Luckily it managed to slip into a slightly more subtle situation over time and has simply become a showstopper picking up a DOUBLE GOLD with a 98/100 rating at the 2021 NZ International Wine Show.

The Montepulciano was hand-picked in perfect condition on April 13th. Gentle hand plunging and pump overs aided the extraction of all the colour and flavours in the berries. After spending one month on skins the wine was run off into fine French oak of which 20% was new where it spent just over 12 months.

Rich ripe boysenberry, cherry stone, tar, and spice aromas saturate the nose. The palate is awash with ripe red fruits and punchy velvety tannins. This Montepulciano is not for the faint hearted but will excite anyone that’s into big reds. This wine has a long life ahead of it and will certainly be worth cellaring into the coming decades."
