94 Points Excellent - Cameron Douglas
"Integrating and harmonising well with aromas of complexity and charm, pinosity, fruit and layers of French oak and barrel toast. Flavours of red berries and cherry, baking spices of clove and vanilla and toasty barrel flavours of smoke and new wood. An abundance of tannins adds a chalk and fine dusty texture, medium acidity refreshes the palate, but also carries the flavours of fruit and a fine savoury complexity throughout the palate. Lengthy dry finish, balanced and well made. Best drinking from late 2021 through 2027+."

Only 300 cases made in the best years, this is an intensely rich wine that will cellar until at least 2020 and drinking will give rewarding ongoing pleasure.

Named for the coal seam which was mined during the goldrush and lies beneath the Carrick Vineyards thier finest expression of Pinot Noir. The wine is aged in barrel for 18 months, then bottled without fining. It is contemplative, earthy, and powerful.
