91/100 (Bob Campbell MW)

"This supple, succulent pinot noir certainly lives up to its name. Offering strong, ripe black cherry flavours supported by a hint of plum and subtle spicy oak flavours. Typical of both variety and region,.it offers good value at this price ($26)" (2018 vintage)

Sweetly lifted on the nose showing cherry, raspberry, strawberry, toasted almond, mushroom and spice aromas, followed by a juicy palate that is nicely rounded and smooth. The wine is fruit-expressive and elegantly styled, beautifully supported by polished tannins.

“Cherry Block was started in large part to bottle the spirit of many memorable times in Central Otago, especially at the Boyd Family Cherry Orchard in Alexandra, Central Otago. We feel very fortunate that it now gives us reason (as if we needed one!) to return to that special part of the world year after year. We hope our wines provide the backdrop for many happy adventures shared, savoured and remembered with friends and family.”
