"With a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, this second wine of Smith Haut Lafitte is dense, laden with tannins and ripe berry flavors. Structured and complex, the wine is likely to age, the tannins filling out to give future richness. Drink the wine from 2022. Roger Voss"

The vines of Château Smith Haut Lafitte are planted in a single block on a Günz gravel plateau in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. This Bordeaux appellation is within the Graves sub region and Grand cru Classe status. The estate has a history dating back over 800 years and is now owned by the Cathiard family, who brought it well up in the list of desirable wines from this region.  Winemaking: Grapes are sorted twice, before and after destemming, and are not pressed before undergoing fermentation in vats. Tannins and color are extracted by soft punching down Aging: 14 months in barrels (20% new) Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2017 has a fresh bouquet with notes of blackberry, raspberry, tobacco leaf and star anise. A fresh and dynamic attack on the palate, a solid mid-palate, framed by firm tannins. A long, fresh finish, signed by the Cabernet Sauvignon. Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot

Le Petit Haut Lafitte is the second wine of the estate. Stands up hugely well on its own merit and a mere snifter of the price too.

Well structured Cabernet dominant wines with a good cellar life.
