"Nieport is to Vintage Port what Krug is to Champagne. They are both small houses in a world dominated by large competitors, but they are producing outstanding wines few can match.” James Suckling, on Vintage Port

Nieport is an independent family business since 1842. Through five generations.

Late Bottled Vintage Port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks. A standard Ruby Port should be drunk young and aVintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to be ready. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it. A hefty and complex style.

Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz and others

Average vine age is 70 years.

"Concentrated and deep ruby hue, this Port shows intense and complex aromas: predominantly red fruits, spice and dark chocolate. A very elegant and expressive nose is echoed by a full-bodied palate with firm tannins and a lively acidity which lends the wine freshness and balance. The finish is long and delightful. This wine already offers great pleasure in its youth but it is definitely suitable for further cellaring and will age beautifully for many years to come."

Late Bottled Vintage is the perfect Port to accompany chocolate desserts, specially bitter chocolate or a pepper steak.
