Touriga National is Portugals No1 red variety, ageworthy, robust with intense flavours. It has long been used in the making of fortified Port wines and in the last 15 years or so is standing tall as a fine dry red. Produced throughout Portugal the Dão region displays, florals, herbal and blackcherry flavours. If you love Cabernet Sauvignon then this will blow you away!

Quinta dos Roques pioneered the idea of varietal bottling in Portugal with their 1996 wines, and were probably responsible for the Touriga Nacional rush which followed. Despite their fame, Roques remain a small producer, with many of their bottlings not exceeding 1000 cases.

Quinta dos Roques is a dynamic and exciting estate, making a sometimes bewildering array of different wines. With 12 different plots totalling 40 hectares, the Roques vineyards are located at altitudes of 450 to 500m.

aged for 12 months in new French oak. This is a wine built for cellaring and the winemaker suggests up to 20 years.

Dark purple in colour, the bouquet is characteristic of the variety. A highly perfumed variety with hints of violets, pine needles and red fruit. Oak and chocolate notes are also aparent with the fruit. On the palate it is very generous and concentrated with firm tannin characteristics.
