4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper "Homegrown rosé: The best of New Zealand's pink wine"

17.5/20 4 Stars (Raymond Chan)

"Bright strawberry pink colour with peach hues and some depth, lighter on the rim with purple tints. The nose is fresh with soft aromas of red cherry and strawberry fruit along with soft red floral notes, unfolding hints of confectionery. This has a refreshing mineral edge to the aromatics. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has moderately rich flavours of cherry fruit with notes of strawberries, along with red florals and subtle confectionery notes, unfolding a degree of minerality. The mouthfeel is fresh with slippery acidity and the wine flows along a smooth-textured line, leading to a lingering, delicately-fruit finish. This is a cherry and strawberry-fruited dry rosé with floral and confectionery nuances, on a slippery, smooth palate."

The Sileni Ridge Pinot Noir Rosé is sourced from Sileni’s cooler Hawke’s Bay vineyards sites. Inland at higher altitude, the Plateau and Springstone vineyards sit on gravel soils, and out on the coast, the Parkhill vineyard sits on clay soils and benefits from the cooling ocean breezes.

WINEMAKING NOTES The Sileni Ridge Pinot Noir Rosé is made from a bleed off (saignée) of juice from our reserve parcels of Pinot Noir. The juice is transferred directly off the receival hopper when the grapes arrive at the winery and into tank for cold settling. The clarified juice is then racked and inoculated with cultured yeast and undergoes a cool fermentation. This wine is bottled early to retain its vibrant aromatics.

This is delicious, rounded, juicy spicy and dry to finish.
