4.5 Stars - Sam Kim

Steve Voysey is an old hand in the NZ wine industry. Starting with Montana in Marlborough. After a few years and promotion to Gisborne Winemaker, Steve moved with his family and intended to stay for 3 years......That was over 30 years ago.

Modelled on traditional Hermitage from the Rhone Valley of France, this is a dry red Syrah, a bold wine, complex and muscular. Venison, beef, duck all cry out for this sort of wine. When the Cubans started rolling cigars, they had wines like this in mind too. Spicy with cedar and oak and the pepper you always find in Syrah. A small amount of Viognier has been blended in line with tradition.

Complex rustic, savory and earthy, spiced fruit scents of Raspberries. Black pepper corns and cedar oak. A richly layered palate with ripe red berry flavours and velvety tannins.

The Voysey range of wines are such good value for the quality on offer. This Syrah packs a punch but not with its price tag.
