97 Points Sam Kim

Coleraine '17 - 'With stunning sophistication and complexity, this meticulously composed red shows beautifully lifted aromas of dark purple fruit intensity together with seductive notes of cedar, cigar. cocoa and violet on the nose. The palate exhibits outstanding weight and depth, while remaining graceful and poised, leading to an extremely long finish, backed by fine, chalky tannins.'

Made in tiny quantities, the 2017 vintage is even rarer than usual! "Balanced and on point, Coleraine '17 dances across the sense now, and will do for years to come - classically Coleraine"

Acknowledged globally as one of New Zealand’s finest red wines, John Buck’s Coleraine has passed into local legend. Concentrated, complex, yet remarkably elegant, this is a wine that has to be experienced.

Each parcel of grapes was destemmed before a traditional warm, plunged fermentation and extended maceration on skins. The resulting wines were then run to predominately new French oak barrels for 17 months’ maturation. Throughout this time, they were regularly topped and racked. The separate wines were blended in September 2018. The finished wine was bottled in December 2018. The final blend is 73% cabernet sauvignon and 27% merlot.
