"This has a very fresh and attractive feel with a ripe, rich and fleshy array of dark berries and rich fruit, as well as red plums. The palate has a very succulent, supple and juicy feel with fine tannins and a fresh, bright and lithe feel to the finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, malbec and merlot."

"Trinity Hill's 2017 The Gimblett is composed of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 4% each Cabernet Franc and Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot, almost all of which aged in new French oak. Inky hued in the glass, it offers up remarkable aromas of acacia blossoms, blueberries, black currants, mocha and cedar. For a wine with this level of concentration, it's remarkably medium-bodied and balanced, with silky tannins framing the dark-fruit flavors. It's one of the best vintages of this wine I can recall tasting, and it should drink well for up to decade. (JC) "

Worth every cent this... Cabernet dominant Hawkes Bay beauty!

The Gimblett” is traditionally made from a blend of grape varieties. The Cabernet family gives structure and fresh aromatics. Merlot gives richness and mid-palate weight with Malbec helping with complexity, density and colour. The result is a wine with exotically perfumed aromatics that include ripe blackberries and red fruits plus hints of florals and dried herbs. There is superb clarity of flavours on the palate. Structurally the wine is complex, with textural tannins. This structure will allow the development of further complexity over the next 10 years. Try with red meat and game dishes.

Trinity Hill’s expertise with Gimblett Gravels cabernets, merlot and malbec shows with “The Gimblett”. A rare rump steak would match its outstanding balance of blackcurrant fruit and dark chocolatey oak. It’s impressively concentrated, yet not without delicacy, and the succulent, soft, complete palate has big, ripe tannins to underpin good ageing potential.
