Gold medal - NZ Int'l Wine Show 2022
93 Points Excellent - Cameron Douglas
"Very enticing, fresh, fruitty and varietal bouquet with scents of ripe doris plums and black berries, dark cherries and a light smoky chocolate quality laced with clove and vanilla baking spices. Flavours on the palate reflect what the bouquet suggests with dark berries and spices. Firm tannins and medium+ acid line layer in freshness and mouthfeel. A lovely wine, balanced and well made. Ready to drink from 2023 through 2027."

Winemaker's Comment
"This deeply coloured wine displays perfumed aromas of dark berry fruits, violets and dried herbs with complexing oak spice characters. A smooth and approachable palate follows with sweet fruit, supple tannins and moreish acidity"

2021 was an exceptional Hawkes Bay vintage. Moderate yields combined with warmer than average temperatures encouraged fruit to achieve optimum ripeness. The fruit for this wine comes from a range of Villa Maria Hawkes Bay vineyards.
