At more than 1,700 mtrs above sea level, the surprisingly broad temperature range generates marked contrasts between the warm days and cold nights, allowing for the development of ripe berries that condense all the best that the region has to offer. The desert climate and the soils, which are poor. Define a unique terroir that is exclusive of this small region. Producing wines of great concentration of color, deep aromas and well-defined flavors.
Native to the small Madiran appellation in south west France, the Tannat grape also makes full-blooded, age-worthy red wines in the high altitude vineyards of Argentina.
If you haven't tried a Tannat you are in for a treat. Probably the thickest skinned variety around, ageworthy and healthy? Tannat contains much higher levels of antioxidants in its skin than other varieties. Much research has been done about red wine and heart health - Tannat features top.

This has become my favourite big red wine. It certainly is big and bold, a bit earthy, packed with flavour and full bodied. It's a nice change from the usual big Aussie reds. Buy this while it's still available at this special price of $18.99. You won't regret it.

First time trying this grape variety and found it hearthy, concentrated stew fruits, plums and spices. Full body, good lenght and great with food.

I love a French Tannat...especially good if you like toping up your statins! This Argentinian version is not as chewy but is amazing value for money for such a complex wine and unusual grape.

The thinking wine drinkers red wine. If you like intensity of flavour, well rounded depth, balanced on the palate, then consider the Don David Tannat.
It is not a "quaffing wine" but sip slowly to appreciate.
