Beach House (Hawkes Bay) 2019 The Track Chardonnay

Beach House Track Chardonnay is from a Gimblett Gravels vineyard on Mere Road and is 100% Clone 95. Grapes were handpicked on the 7th of March and were whole bunch pressed straight to French barrels for wild fermentation in both puncheons (500L) and barriques (225L). The wine was left in these oak vessels for 10 months where it was stirred weekly to retain freshness and promote mouthfeel. 100% of the final blend underwent malo-lactic fermentation imparting a lovely butterscotch character and softening the acidity.

Aromas of Brioche and sweet croissant glazed with roasted almonds, mandarin and fresh pineapple. Brimming with complexity and charm. Just stunning

Beach House (Hawkes Bay) Selection 2020 Chardonnay

Always a fave with Chardonnay fans and a bargain compared to others!

Winery notes
"Our 2020 Selection Chardonnay is absolutely superb. 100% handpicked. 100% whole bunch pressed and fermented in our finest French oak barrels including 21% new oak. 2020 was an exceptional vintage, with a long hot dry summer. The grapes were immaculately clean. The wine spent 10 months in barrel and was stirred regularly softening the wine and giving it lots of lovely leesy complexity.

The nose is filled with brioche, peach, melon and grapefruit pith with hints of toasted nuts and spice. On the palate the wine is seamless with many different flavours flowing nicely together. All the hallmarks of an ultra-premium Chardonnay are present – the fruit, oak and MLF flavours coalesce together nicely. "

Bogle (California) 2019 Phantom Chardonnay

American Winery of the Year 2019 Wine Enthusiast

From the one of California's finest, Bogle Vineyards, comes the Phantom Chardonnay which pays homage to hard work and determination of those who worked in the vineyards years before. The grapes are some of Californias finest, sourced from Clarksburg, and then lovingly barrel fermented to enrich with smooth flavours.

Lush, creamy, generous like its Bogle siblings and lengthy like its history. Green apple and pear transform into spicy flavours of freshly baked apple pie. Barrel fermentation in French Oak imparts layers of vanilla and melted caramel notes which meld into a smooth, rich mouthfeel.

Domaine De La Meuliere (France) 2019 Petit Chablis

An example of an historic winemaking family, the Laroche team have been producing fantastic Chablis from Domaine Meulière since the late 19th century. In recent years, the youngest generation of workers, Nicolas and Vincent, have integrated a number of new, modern winemaking methods. However, the overall process still more or less mirrors that was practised by their great grandfather when the Domaine produced its first harvest. For instance, they count themselves among a very small group of Chablis producers who continue to complete their harvest by hand. Domaine Meulière also boasts rather spectacular wine cellar, which dates back to the 18th century.

Domaine Rewa (Otago) 2019 Chardonnay

5 Stars 19/20 - Candice Chow Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
"Bright, pale straw-yellow, even colour throughout. The nose is gently full and elegant, penetrating aromas of stonefruit, melon, citrus, along with mineral melded with subtlely well-proportioned custard, raw nuts and spices. Medium-bodied, lush fruit of peach, nectarine and melon fills the palate, lemon sherbet and zest added freshness. Flavours grow in intensity, unfolding refined toasty oak with white spice and a little cream linger to a long, sustained refined finish. The wine is elegant and delicate; crisp acidity thread flows smoothly with chalky phenolic, adorn by a little creaminess and reflecting fruit's purity. This harmonious and sleek Chardonnay with fruit's purity, lacy acidity and a chalky mineral mouthfeel is already delicious. Match with whitebait fritters and soft cheese over the next 5+ years. Handpicked Mendoza and Clone 15 Chardonnay, whole bunch pressed to tank, settled overnight, then transferred to French oak barriques for wild fermentation, 13.5% alc. Aged in oak for 9 months, 36% new oak, MLF occurred, and lees stirred weekly. No fining. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Mar 2021 RRP $55"

Elegant and just divine.

5.5 hectare vineyard planted in 1997, on the fluvial terraces beneath the Pisa Range with a mix of varieties, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Only the finest grapes are used to produce the wines for Domaine Rewa so production is limited.

"Bright, even, pale yellow with a slightly green hue. The nose is elegantly full and expressive, immediately filling the glass with toasted hazelnut, buttery popcorn underlying stone fruit, citrus, barrel flint and spice. Full-bodied, pure fruit aromas of peach, nectarine with a citrus base, enriched by barrel spice, hazelnut and buttery popcorn. The acidity is sherbety and seamless, carrying barrel spice, flint throughout the palate. Noticeable silky phenolics contribute to texture, along with a buttery flow. Flavours are harmonious and generous; combining the vibrant acidity shows vitality and ageing potential. Match with tiger prawns and poultry over the next 7+ years" Candice Chow

Established in 2003, Elephant Hill is located within a stone’s throw of the Pacific Ocean on the idyllic Te Awanga coast of Hawke’s Bay on New Zealand’s North Island. The winemaking at Elephant Hill is driven by tradition while not losing sight of what innovation can bring to the blend. "Our aim is to make wines that are balanced, elegant and a true expression of the vineyards they come from."

Hand harvested fruit was gently whole bunch pressed and the resulting juice was briefly settled before being transferred to French oak barrels (largely seasoned) and tank for natural and inoculated fermentation. Following this, some batches went through malolactic fermentation to balance out the natural acidity. Maturation on fine lees for 13 months with regular stirring has added texture, complexity and interest to the core of fruit purity this wine shows.

Giesen (Marlborough) 2021 The Brothers Chardonnay

The 2021 Brothers Chardonnay shows citrus and stonefruits in a full bodied, concentrated style that is nicely layered with perfectly judged oak, savoury complexity and a nutty creaminess kept in balance by a subtle flinty minerality. Still fairly youthful at present, it responds well to air and opens up into an immensely satisfying, crowd pleasing style with power, finesse and length.

Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
Aromas of ripe peach, toasted hazelnut, vanilla and brioche. The palate is rich and concentrated with flavours of lemon zest, apricot and grapefruit, and a delicious buttery finish

The fruit was picked then immediately pressed at the winery. Juice then settled overnight before being racked to tank and having yeast added ahead of transfer to oak barrels. The wine was fermented then matured in predominately French oak barrels for 10 months, with 17% new oak and the balance seasoned 1, 2 and 3 year old barrels. This selection was to ensure the wine had balanced toasty oak character which allowed the fruit to shine. The wine was fined and filtered for bottling."
