Don David (Argentina) 2018 Reserve Tannat

4 Stars - Joelle Thomson "A meaty dark red with pronounced
grainy tannins, a full body and lots of life ahead of it, thanks to its muscular power.
This wine is good value for money, drinks
well now and is best served in a large glass to allow the air to soften its tannins; cellar

for 4 to 5 years" Joelle Thomson  (2017 vintage)

When you talk about pedigree in wine, the Don David Tannat possesses buckets of it. Over its history this wine has twice been voted as the best red wine in the world by two different wine competitions. An amazing feat given the price this wine sells for.

Native to the small Madiran appellation in south west France, the Tannat grape makes full-blooded, age-worthy red wines in the high altitude vineyards of Argentina. Don David Reserve Tannat is made from hand-picked grapes, and is aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.

The Don David Reserve Tannat has firm tannins and is full of character. This wine is a fantastic representation of the terroir to be found in Cafayete. The palate shows lots of dark chocolate and smooth flavours with a firm, pleasant finish. This variety is very much sought after for it's high level of resveratrol and associated possible health benefits.

Penfolds (South Australia) 2018 Bin 138 SGM

Its finally here!!!!!!!! Penfolds Release, Extremely limited, NZ allocation has been delayed and we dont have much either.

Bin 138 draws its inspiration from the wines of Southern Rhône, where Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvèdre) are blended in varying proportions to create full-bodied wines possessing rich and heady perfume.

Each year fruit for Bin 138 is sourced from Barossa Valley vines and then matured for 12 to 15 months in seasoned oak hogsheads to allow the different varietals to shine through. Bin 138 is defined by its distinctive plum, raspberry pastille and underlying spicy notes. The first vintage release of this varietal blend was the 1992, labelled ‘Old Vine Barossa Valley’ – it was then elevated to Bin status for the 1998 vintage.

A complete wine. Substantial. So authentically Barossa. One to watch.”

Carmenere - recognised as Chile's own red varietal, and this is a stonkingly fine example of this Merlot-esque grape.

A Carmenere which is high intensity ruby red and bright in color. On the nose it is expressive and intense, distinguished with notes of blackberry, plum, and black pepper. On the palate these aromas mix with notes of vanilla, coffee and chocolate from careful oak aging. Fresh and persistent finish.
