Cherries, cranberries and dark chocolate with a touch of cedar are evident on the nose whilst the palate is intense and fruit driven. Cave De Fleurie (France) 2019 Beaujolais Villages

Beaujolais is the most southern wine growing region in Burgundy, though it is substantially different from rest of Burgundy, both in climate and in the wine it produces, it is often thought of as its own appellation. Beaujolais produces light, dry red wines made from Gamay grapes.

Seductive and well-balanced with delectably soft tannins.   Beneath its intense deep garnet hue, this wine offers an elegant and expressive nose with intense and slightly jammy red fruit aromas.  The wine is supple and well-balanced on entry to the palate, with smooth, melted tannins which give it a very attractive and succulent character.

Clearview (Hawkes Bay) Sea Red Dessert 500ml

Winery notes (NV)
"This is the classic Clearview meal finisher. A fortified red wine style pioneered by Tim Turvey some 17 years ago. The wine has an initial sweetness and a weighty palate, oily with dense berry fruits and plums, followed by an opulently rich finish.

The grapes were hand picked very late at optimum ripeness in a late harvest style with shrivelling, but no botrytis, adding to the concentration and giving the resultant wine its rich berry and dried fruit flavours.

The name for this wine was inspired by the Split Enz track “I See Red” combined with the belief that having drunk the wine, one can walk on water! (“Think Red Sea”)."

Massena (Barossa) 2018 Howling Dog saperavi

93 points - Huon Hooke - The Real Review

Wowee we just loved this big, tannic beast, here at Winesale.......

Massena was established at the turn of the century by Jaysen Collins and Dan Standish. Growing up amongst the old vines of the Barossa inspired a collaboration in making wines of character, balance and a reflection of the sense of enjoyment in the whole winemaking process. Traditional Barossa varieties are sourced, Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro from dedicated growers in the deep red soils of the North Western edge of the Barossa. These include the sub regions of Greenock, Stonewell and Moppa. These rare vineyards host dry farmed, low yielding vines up to 150 years of age.

Massena is all about making wine from great vineyards and the way we go about it reflects this simplicity, with minimal intervention in the winery. Hand harvesting allows some whole bunch inclusion and the vineyard’s indigenous yeast is used in all ferments.

Saperavi is a highly tannic and deeply coloured variety, in fact the flesh is also coloured unlike most black grepes. It is native to Geogia but creeping in with some super cool producers in  Aus and the USA

Winery Description
"It took us a while to get this one right, when we were first experimenting with Petite Sirah the tannins were so pronounced that tasters actually started howling as it crossed their palate. We later planted other naturally tannic varietals Tannat and Saperavi, softening the tannins so the only howl we hear now is one of enjoyment. Taken from Dadd’s Block on the high side – sandy loam with long sunlight hours and low rainfall. The best of these varieties is selected each year, either on their own or as a blend.

Black as night and laden with an abundance of natural structure and personality, the palate surprises with immense flavour but with all elements in balance. Aromas of beetroot, tilled earth and juniper, the palate has an inky, iodine like deepness with elements of roasted coriander and cumin and a structure that is evident, but intriguingly supple. Built more along the lines of a marathon runner than a sprinter, it is already approachable but will greatly reward those who choose to keep a few bottles well into the future."

Sartori (Italy) 2019 Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore

93 Points - James Suckling
"A very pleasant Ripasso with super-clean red and black fruit, together with a darker note of charred oak. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and a flavorful finish. A tasty, savory option now, but this is well-structured and ready for further bottle aging"

A classic blend of 55% Corvina Veronese, 25% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% Croatina grown in vineyards located in the hills of Valpolicella, north of Verona.

Selection in the vineyard of the best grape bunches. The grapes are subsequently pressed gently and this is followed by a skin maceration at low temperature for 8-10 days.

“ripasso” an Italian term for a winemaking term, meaning the wine "passes over" the skins from super premium Amarone wines. This second maceration enhances the favour and tannins, which give this wine its longevity, and of the typical fragrance of Amarone wine. The wine then goes through maturation for between 18-24 month in medium and large size oak casks. Finally the wine is refined for at least 6 months in the bottle prior to release.

Intense, structured and complex mouthfeel.

Gamay Noir, the grape made famous in Beaujolais, produces a light bodied red wine bursting with crushed red berry characters.
