Croft (Portugal) 2016 Vintage Port 3Ltr

94 Points - Neal Martin, vinous.com
91 Points - Derek Smedley MW
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast

97 Points -James Suckling
"Extremely perfumed with dark-berry and currant aromas. Hints of earth and spices. Full-bodied, round and medium sweet. Hints of resin. Opulent yet restrained. Shows ripe and beautiful fruit with clarity. Try in 2025."

Adrian Bridge, Managing Director, Croft
"This is a classic Croft Vintage Port, wonderfully aromatic with a rich fruitiness and an exotic herbal character. However, it has the poise and sense of proportion characteristic of the 2106 vintage. A relatively small crop means that the amount of Vintage Port made was smaller than usual.”

"Intense purple ruby core with vivid purple rim. The nose displays the ripe strawberry and blackcurrant fruitiness and resiny notes of rock rose and eucalyptus that are the essence of the Croft Vintage Port style. The palate opens with a surge of rich berry fruit flavour and is supported by a dense mesh of close-knit tannins. Although the wine displays some of the plump, rubenesque character of prior Croft vintages, the accent here is on symmetry and finesse. The characteristically exuberant fruit and heady herbal aromas are carefully modulated and the wine is classical in its proportions. An elegant and aromatic Vintage Port, perfectly poised between opulence and restraint"

Fonseca (Portugal) Tawny Port 750ml

As it matures in cask, Tawny Port gradually loses the deep red 'ruby' colour of youth and takes on the seductive amber hue known as 'tawny'. At the same time the wine becomes progressively smoother and mellower, its aromas gaining in richness and complexity. After the three years of ageing the wines are then blended together a few months before bottling for balance and harmony. Fonseca tawnies are bottled for immediate drinking.

Tawny-red colour fading to brick on the rim.  The seductive nose displays aromas of apricot and plum with mellow undertones of butterscotch and spice.  On the palate, the rich jammy flavours are lifted on the finish by an attractive crisp acidity.

Great with, Cheese, Dark chocolate desserts and fruity desserts.

Niepoort (Portugal) 10 yr Old Tawny

91 Points - Robert Parker
“Tawny in colour, with aromas of dried apricots and crystallized tangerine peel well integrated with a nutty character. The palate reveals dried fruits with a fiery spirity finish. With a great structure and a long finish. This offers amazing aromas of orange and lemon peel, with hints of toffee, caramel and honey. Fullbodied and luscious, with lots of sweet fruit and a long subtle finish that goes on and on. This is really the benchmark for 10-year-old tawnies.”

Tawnies with an age indication of ’10 years’ are blended from different wines averaging 10 years. The prolonged ageing in small old oak casks (550L) confers the characteristic tawny colour. The main features of an aged Tawny are the complexity of aromas, the freshness and a persistent bouquet and refinement. The balanced marriage of the different characteristics and diverse ages is the art of the Niepoort’s Master Blender, José Nogueira.

Niepoort (Portugal) 2015 Late Bottled Vintage Port

"Nieport is to Vintage Port what Krug is to Champagne. They are both small houses in a world dominated by large competitors, but they are producing outstanding wines few can match.” James Suckling, on Vintage Port

Nieport is an independent family business since 1842. Through five generations.

Late Bottled Vintage Port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks. A standard Ruby Port should be drunk young and aVintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to be ready. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it. A hefty and complex style.

Late Bottled Vintage is the perfect Port to accompany chocolate desserts, specially bitter chocolate or a pepper steak.
