Giesen Estate (NZ) 2023 Pinot Gris

Double Gold and Trophy - New Zealand International Wine Show

Each parcel of Pinot Gris is harvested at optimum ripeness. Short skin contact adds flavour and texture to the wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, we used very select aromatic yeasts to make the wine more intense. We stopped the ferment early to retain a small amount of acidity and natural sugar to give the wine it’s off-dryness. The wine was held on lees for two months to help build mouth feel & texture, then blended and bottled.

Maude (Otago) 2023 Pinot Gris

Ever popular, this stunning Pinot Gris from Otago producer, Maude.

Winery note

"Quince, pear and biscuits - voluminous and fuller bodied from partial fermentation in seasoned oak barrels.

There were so many positives with this growing season and the resultant 2022 harvest. Nature provided some timely rains from October to December, which combined with warm dry periods in between allowed the vines to thrive, good even growth making Spring / Summer vine training a dream. Our nemesis, jack frost, was nowhere to be found and we enjoyed calm settled weather over flowering and fruit set, resulting in a healthy crop load with above average number of bunches/vine but smaller than average berry size, the perfect combination. Whilst the strong La Nina brought rain to the North Island and much of the East Coast of Australia, it gave us a beautifully warm, dry Autumn that extended into May. Whilst harvest started early for us in mid-March at Mohawk Hill, we enjoyed the cooler finish to the season which slowed down ripening at Poison Creek and Mt Maude, giving the Pinot Noirs in particular, time to develop wonderful flavours. We’re excited.

Whole bunch press and Footstomped parcels with 30% fermented in oak barriques."

Te Kairanga TK (Martinborough) 2023 Estate Pinot Gris

This Pinot Gris is made from individual vineyard parcels, gently pressed on arrival and cool fermented in stainless steel to maintain its clean, fresh flavour. A small portion of the fruit was fermented in old French oak puncheons to add extra texture and complexity to the wine. The wine was then aged on light lees before being blended and bottled. Balanced oak treatment and minimal fining and filtration help preserve both varietal character and the inimitable personality of the terroir.

Fragrant exotic fruits and spice are front and centre in this Pinot Gris. The palate shows a refined texture and deep concentration of flavour with a long dry finish. Incredibly mouth-filling with notes of nashi pear, peach and nuts, it is an ideal match for a Japanese feast of grilled chicken and zucchini yakatori.
