Giesen Estate (NZ) 2020 Pinot Gris

4.5 stars 91 - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

Each parcel of Pinot Gris is harvested at optimum ripeness. Short skin contact adds flavour and texture to the wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, we used very select aromatic yeasts to make the wine more intense. We stopped the ferment early to retain a small amount of acidity and natural sugar to give the wine it’s off-dryness. The wine was held on lees for two months to help build mouth feel & texture, then blended and bottled.

Kahurangi (Nelson) 2020 Pinot Gris

91 Points Premium - Cameron Douglas MS
"There’s gentle onion skin hue to this wine reflect the pink skin of the variety at harvest and a touch of skin contact. Aromas include fresh bosc pear and a apple, white roses and a quiet silty minerality. On the palate - fresh, fruity centric and just dry with a core of white fleshed orchard fruits with a lite citrus note. Silky textures, medium+ acidity and a lengthy balanced finish. Well made and ready to drink upon purchase and through summer 2022."

5 Stars - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 2020

Winery notes:

"A stunning grape growing season for the 2020 Harvest. A dry Spring, followed by a hot and dry Summer with a little bit of rain just before harvest began, resulting in intense flavours and ripeness in the grapes and wines. A subtle perfumed nose brimming with pears, nashi and crushed ripe apple is repeated on the palate. A slightly drier mouth-feel an a great full length to finish. Perfect for all occasions."

Te Kairanga TK (Martinborough) 2020 Estate Pinot Gris

This Pinot Gris is made from individual vineyard parcels, gently pressed on arrival and cool fermented in stainless steel to maintain its clean, fresh flavour. A small portion of the fruit was fermented in old French oak puncheons to add extra texture and complexity to the wine. The wine was then aged on light lees before being blended and bottled. Balanced oak treatment and minimal fining and filtration help preserve both varietal character and the inimitable personality of the terroir.

Fragrant exotic fruits and spice are front and centre in this Pinot Gris. The palate shows a refined texture and deep concentration of flavour with a long dry finish. Incredibly mouth-filling with notes of nashi pear, peach and nuts, it is an ideal match for a Japanese feast of grilled chicken and zucchini yakatori.
