5 stars – NZ Wine Magazine 2021
4.5 Stars - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

“The wine is charming and complex, showing dark cherry, dried herb, anise and dark mushroom notes, followed by a flavoursome palate that’s silky and soothing. It’s beautifully harmonious with lovely fruit intensity and fine texture, offering lovely drinking. At its best: now to 2023” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020

Winery note
"Sun warmed cherries, Doris plums, spiced cinnamon and cloves with underlying savoury notes. A full and vibrant palate the wine reveals a concentrated and fruit forward core of fresh cherries and blackcurrants while balanced by warm supportive sweet vanilla oak and silky fine grain tannins before finishing an elegant balanced freshness."

The grapes for this wine were grown on elevated glacial terraces with seams of greywacke, schist alluvium and overlying shallow Manuherikia fine sandy loam.

The name of this Pinot Noir celebrates those born of gold, the opportunists, the chancers, the fiercely ungovernable pioneers that carved out a claim on the richest rivers in the world and the self-imposed ‘law’s that controlled them.

Full of plummy fruit and spice, silky tannins and most definitely quaffable.
