Selected for the 2020 Fine Wines of New Zealand List

Grown on one of the world’s most southerly Pinot Noir vineyard sites this tiny 7.8 hectare vineyard produces exceptional wine. Since the company was formed in 2001 Phil Handford and the winemaking team have established a world class brand. Pip Battley leads the winemaking team. This Pinot displays a floral, feminine charm, an elegant bouquet, core of fruit and incredible texture. Youthful yet fine, ripe tannins, pristine acidity and long complex finish.

"Estate-grown in Alexandra, this is typically a top buy. From vines planted in 2003, the graceful 2018 vintage was hand-picked and matured for 11 months in French oak barriques (29 per cent new). Bright ruby, it is fragrant, savoury and supple, with youthful, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing good complexity, and a very harmonious finish."

The big name Pinot Noir you have never heard of...................

A single site Pinot Noir from Earnscleugh, Grasshopper Rock is on the south side of the Alexandra basin. The vineyard is on warm North facing slopes.

All the good fruit goes into this (probably because they only make one Pinot Noir). Clever winemakers, Pip Battley and Pete Bartle, are top of their game when it comes to making top Pinot Noirs, usually with a $60 price tag.

This has to be one of Otago's best value AND best quality offerings around.

One of the most awarded, yet one of the most under-the radar Central Otago Pinot Noir labels. From a single vineyard planted entirely in Pinot Noir on the south side of the basin across the Clutha River from the Alexandra township. It has garnered a string of impressive awards since the first vintage in 2006 and has deservedly been included in the list of New Zealand's Finest Wines, compiled by 8 Masters of Wine and Sommelier. This has to represent some of the best value, quality Pinot to come out of Central.
