Pierre Ponnelle was a well known figure of Burgundy in the 19th century. Born in 1847 he spent his youth in Beaune and later went on to study in Germany. Pierre Ponnelle, however, was above all passionate about oenology. He then returned to Beaune in 1875 and founded his house as wine merchant.
