5 Star Winery rating - James Halliday, Wine Companion

Winesale is thrilled to bring to New Zealand the wines of Jason Schwartz. Under the Schwartz Wine Company label. Jason's family has a long history in winemaking in the Barossa and Jason is 5th generation of Schwartzs making wine in the Barossa region. Working with his father since the age of 14 this started his passion for wine. First studying wine marketing he then travelled to Europe, and the USA. Then on coming back to the Barossa bought a small parcel of land in 2001 to make his own wine.

Fruit selected from vineyards; Vine Vale, Bethany, Marananga, Stonewell, Hallett Valley, and Light Pass.

The fruit was fermented in small open fermenters with wild yeast (naturally occurring yeast from the vineyard) Pump overs, hand plunging and foot stomping was carried out as required. The wines were softly pressed and kept separately until final blending in late May 2020. 88% of this wine was matured in French oak puncheons, hogsheads and an old 2350L wooden vat. The remaining 12% was tank matured.

The full spectrum of Barossa Shiraz’s aromatic capability is here on show, from scorched earth, bitter couverture chocolate, just-dried raisin, sweet red licorice, and cola bean, all heady, defined, and un-wound for all to see. Here. the fine line between luxurious fruit and energy is walked gracefully, its warming and full-blooded nature tethered by lifted acidity. Good Stuff!

A vegan friendly wine.
