Exclusive import

Winesale is delighted to bring to New Zealand the wines of Domaine du seminaire.

The domaine run by the Lafage family, is located on the territory of Valréas, Enclave des Papes. This renowned terroir is composed of clayey-limestone hillsides.

Growing varietals, typical of the Rhone valley; Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Clairette, Grenache Blanc. The estate produces 250 000 bottles per year. The estate is 100% Organic Certified. Hervé Pouizin is the fourth generation to farm this land; he and his wife, Mathilde have preserved the self-sufficient estate mostly as it was a century ago, with one key exception: they converted everything to organic farming.

The grapes for the Valreas come from a selection of old vines 50-70years grown on the hillside. Manual harvest with destemming of the grape to offer non agressive tannins. Use of indigenous yeasts, fer-mentation for 21 to 28 days with pumping under controlled temperatures. Soft vinication. The wine is aged between 8 and 12 month in concrete tanks. These same tanks have been used since 1938,  an old-school approach to winemaking and uses no oak. They produce high-toned, bright, floral wines bottled early to preserve the fruit and with minimal sulfur.

80% Grenache Vieilles Vignes, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre

Beautiful dark ruby color. Typical aromas of black berries, liquorice and spices. Full and balanced palate fresh and fruity with melted tannins. A robust and hearty wine without being to heavy. This is a real treat, fantastic drinking, now and up to 5+ years
