90 Points Rated Premium - Cameron Douglas
"Very fragrant, varietal, fruity, herbaceous, spicy and enticing. Aromas and flavours of white and yellow fruits, botanicals and citrus peel. There’s a lot of texture on the palate with the alcohol adding warmth, but also emphasising the phenolics. Medium+ish acidity with a core of fruit flavours reflecting the bouquet. A thoroughly interesting wine best suited to richly flavoured foods. Drinking best from 2023 through 2025."

5 Stars - Michael Cooper
"The Gewürztraminers from this tiny Hawke's Bay winery are among the best in the country. This 'Old Vine' wine is made entirely from grapes hand-picked from the original Mere Road plantings of 1983, and matured on its yeast lees for four months, with no use of oak. Certified organic, the very classy 2021 vintage is already delicious. Pale lemon in hue, it is richly perfumed, sturdy and well-rounded, in a powerful, off-dry style with concentrated, ripe peach, lychee and spice flavours, a slightly oily texture, and lovely delicacy and length."

Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Stonecroft has always been known for this variety and our Old Vine has a loyal following. With the Old Vine Gewürztraminer we aim for a rich style of Gewürztraminer with some sweetness (medium dry this vintage) and we look to get at least a small amount of botrytis (noble rot) in the grapes. The wine is made with fruit from vines planted in 1992.

An opulent bouquet with lychee and hints of jasmine and rose. This wine is a rich style of Gewürztraminer with tropical fruit flavours, Turkish delight and honey. It has a weighty mouth feel and a luscious texture with a long finish. Further complexity will develop with cellaring. Medium dry."

If you are looking for a Gewuz with some real oomph this is it! Just stunning.
