Wolfburn distillery is one of the more exciting of the new distilleries - well, technically it’s not new, it has merely been reopened (after a gap of 160 years!) and is now the most northern distillery on the mainland of Scotland.

Batch 128 released in May 2017 is a small batch release of 6,000 bottles. It’s a lightly peated (10 ppm) offering that has matured in small 100 litre "half-sized" first-fill ex-bourbon casks.

The aroma of this Wolfburn is very fresh (a sea-side breeze) and lively, with notes of dried apples, nutmeg and sweet vanilla pod. There is a subtle background tang of peat smoke on the palate that has a very waxy and oily feeling, carrying butter toffee, dried apricots and candied orange zest with a surprisingly rich, earthy feel.
