Trinity Hill (Hawkes bay) 2018 Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay

Top Notch producer, Vintage and fruit. This is all class!

Hand-harvested fruit was gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeast in French oak 500 litre puncheons. The wild yeast ferments help add complexity and texture. Malo-lactic fermentation was encouraged to soften acidity and give further richness. The wine received 11 months barrel aging then a further 4 months in tank on lees

Fruit flavours are in the cool to moderate spectrum of citrus, white flowers, ripe grapefruit and melon. The style is mid-weight with elegant oak nicely tucked in, providing texture and lingering flavours of cashew, roasted almond and gun flint.

The structure has a tight shape with the finesse and concentration that are hallmarks of Trinity Hill Chardonnay. It displays delicacy but richness and the beautifully linear acidity makes it a fantastic match with food.

Trinity Hill (Hawkes Bay) 2018 The Gimblet

95 Points -  Andrew Caillard MW
"Medium deep crimson. Intense blackcurrant mulberry ginger wild fennel aromas. Generous inky wine with deep set blackcurrant mulberry fruits, fine chalky dense tannins, plentiful mocha, vanilla nutmeg oak, lovely mid-palate richness and fresh long integrated acidity. Finishes chalky/ grippy firm and a touch oaky right now but all the elements are in balance for the long term. 13.5%."

Worth every cent this... Cabernet dominant Hawkes Bay beauty!

The Gimblett” is traditionally made from a blend of grape varieties. The Cabernet family gives structure and fresh aromatics. Merlot gives richness and mid-palate weight with Malbec helping with complexity, density and colour. The result is a wine with exotically perfumed aromatics that include ripe blackberries and red fruits plus hints of florals and dried herbs. There is superb clarity of flavours on the palate. Structurally the wine is complex, with textural tannins. This structure will allow the development of further complexity over the next 10 years. Try with red meat and game dishes.

Trinity Hill’s expertise with Gimblett Gravels cabernets, merlot and malbec shows with “The Gimblett”. A rare rump steak would match its outstanding balance of blackcurrant fruit and dark chocolatey oak. It’s impressively concentrated, yet not without delicacy, and the succulent, soft, complete palate has big, ripe tannins to underpin good ageing potential.
