Beach House (Hawkes Bay) 2020 Cabernet Malbec

57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Franc. The varieties were hand-picked, de-stemmed and fermented separately in small open topped vats where they were gently hand plunged and pumped over to aid in extracting the maximum amount of flavour and colour from the berries.

2019 will go down as one of the top vintages of the last few decades. Blackberry compote and cassis flood the nose alongside hints of dried Italian herb. Dark chocolate, spice and a perceptible graphite / tar edge begin to illustrate the depth and complexity of this relatively youthful wine. On the palate the wine is bright and bold, coating the mouth with smooth yet steadfast tannins. Whilst relatively approachable already, this Cabernet blend from the Gimblett Gravels is set to have a long future and will continue to gain interest and complexity well into the 2030’s.

"2019 was an exceptional vintage right across the board, but the one variety that seems to benefit most from these hot and dry vintages is undoubtedly Syrah.
Our 2019 Syrah was handpicked on April 5th in pristine condition with the infamous ‘dimple’ effect (caused by dehydration within the berries) evident right across the Syrah block. Once picked, the grapes were de-stemmed into an open topped fermenter and left to undergo wild fermentation. The wine was gently plunged and pumped over throughout fermentation to aid flavour and colour extraction. The wine spent a total of 27 days on skins before it was pressed off into French oak barrels consisting of 33% new oak. The wine was then left to age for 12 months in barrel"

This wine has wone 7 trophies since the 2014 vintage and can rightly claim to be one of New Zealand's most successful Cabernet Francs. 

Violets, spice, chocolate, and damson plum saturate the nose whilst the palate is rich and opulent giving loads of dark red fruits. The tannins give the wine plenty of structure, also providing longevity for many years to come. Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Franc at its peak. Drink now until 2030.

"A glorious rosé blend taken from our Gimblett Gravels block made from Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. We pressed the juice from the skins as soon as they were picked insuring a very subtle colour pick up evident in the glass as that now famous ‘Provence’ pink we’ve come to know and love. A delicate floral nose with watermelon, strawberries and just the lightest sprinkle of spice delight the senses. There is a light and juicy entry on to the palate with yummy red fruit flavours that lead into a moreish dry finish that leaves you wanting more. The 2022 vintage was an excellent rose vintage and has made for one of our most exciting roses yet."

"Our 2021 Selection Chardonnay is another stunner. 100% handpicked. 100% whole bunch pressed and fermented in our finest French oak barrels. 2021 was a stellar vintage in Hawke’s Bay and made for a relatively early start to harvest. The lions share of the fruit for this wine was hand-picked on February 25^th and 26^th. After cold setting the juice, we transferred it to both large format and traditional sized barrels where it spent the next 10 months.

The nose is filled with brioche, peach, melon and grapefruit pith with hints of toasted nuts and spice. On the palate the wine is seamless with many different flavours flowing nicely together. All the hallmarks of an ultra-premium Chardonnay are present – the fruit, oak and MLF flavours coalesce together nicely. Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay at its absolute pinnacle for what is arguably a very low price for this kind of quality. Get in now before the boss decides to put the price up! "
