The hand-picked grapes are destemmed, but not crushed, and spend seven days on skins in an open fermenter with twice daily hand-plunging and gentle pump-overs of the cap to extract colour, flavours and tannins.

This is followed by careful basket pressing and maturation in a combination of American and French oak barrels for 24 months prior to bottling.

The Barossa Old Vine Charter was instituted to register vineyards by age, so that older vines could be preserved, retained and promoted.

The grapes for this wine come from just two small vineyards, one in the sub-region of Nuriootpa that lies on sandy loams and alluvial clays and the other in Vine Vale, a sub-region of the Barossa that lies on very deep sandy soils over clay. These low yielding “Old Vines” were planted between 1960 and 1961 and are now fully matured with root structure and trunk thickness that encourages diversity of flavour and character.

Chateau Tanunda (Barossa) 2016 Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon

90 Points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2019
"Terrific dark purple-garnet hue; it shows its place and is a bold expression of the variety with intense fruit all blackberries and mulberries, dark chocolate, lots of herbs and cedary oak. Quite structured and austere although the sweet fruit tempers the grippy tannins and it feels warm on the finish. Drink By 2028" Jane Faulkner

Lifted aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and vanilla are accompanied by vibrant, dark berry fruits on the palate. The finish is long with fine-grained tannins from sixteen months maturation in a combination of new and older French oak hogsheads.

Although drinking well now, this wine may be cellared for up to ten years from vintage.

Winery description

"The Château’ Cabernet Sauvignon displays deep, rich purple and red hues.

The bouquet has lifted aromas of blackcurrant, redcurrant and spice on the velvety smooth palate with hints of cedar and mint. The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from 18 months' maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels.

The grapes for this year’s The Chateau Cabernet Sauvignon were grown on our estate vineyard in the cool climate of the Eden Valley.

The grapes are destemmed, but not crushed, and spend seven days on their skins in open fermenters with regular battonage to more gently extract colour, flavours and tannins. Following fermentation, the wine is carefully basket pressed prior to maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 18 months."

Chateau Tanunda (Barossa) 2017 Terroirs Ebenezer Shiraz

94 POINTS Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"Black/purple colour and very dense, this looks like one powerful shiraz, yet the nose is really giving and improbably subtle. Smooth berry fruit is its raison d'être, mocha-like complexities add dimension, and oak helps frame it with a savoury toasty structure in great harmony. Fruit concentration flows through ripe, fine-grained tannins seamlessly, and it has excellent balance. Iron fist - velvet glove. 23 MAY 2019 R Kyte Powell. Recommended Drinking: 2019–2044"

Chateau Tanunda (Barossa) 2018 Terroirs Greenock Shiraz

96 POINTS- Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
A tremendously styled shiraz; the bouquet shows dark fruit richness with vanilla, cedar and cake spice characters, followed by a concentrated palate that’s expansive and mouthfilling. It’s splendidly enhanced by silky texture and grainy tannins, offering firm structure and terrific length. At its best: now to 2038.
92 POINTS - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Deep dark purple/red colour, with a more herbal aromatic note, peppercorns, coconut and green walnut naunces, too. The palate is bold and full-bodied...Age will no doubt bring more to it. Drink 2022 - 2035

An expression of invidivuals regions within the greater Barossa area. Greenock sits on the north western outskirts of Nuriootpa, in the heart of the Barossa Valley.
The dark, brooding regional characters of plum, red cherry and liquorice are all to the fore of this wine. The palate is focused and linear, with dark bitter chocolate notes and an elegant long persistent finish. We recommend cellaring for 10 years.
