"Medium deep crimson. Intense black olive tapenade, dark chocolate, dark cherry aromas with roasted walnut notes. Muscular firm but vigorous wine with deep set choco-berry fruits, cedar/ sandalwood notes and grippy dry tannins. Finishes firm and tight with attractive dark fruit, sappy/ leafy notes at the finish. 2023 - 2030"

Winery note
"The individual vineyard and varietal parcels were harvested separately and fermented with wild yeast in our open topped concrete fermenters. Hand plunging was employed to gently extract colour and tannin. After a period of post fermentation maceration the individual parcels were pressed to french oak barrels and aged in cool cellars for 18 months, before blending in November 2020. This is Esk Valley's first Malbec based wine from our Gimblett Gravels vineyards. A very deeply coloured wine as you would expect from a Malbec based wine. It displays rich plummy, jammy Gimblett Gravels fruit on the nose with hints of tobacco and dried herbs. On the palate it is a medley of power and concentration from Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon allied with softer Merlot tannins. This is a full bodied and complex wine, and an ideal accompaniment to red meat dishes"

Esk Valley (Hawkes Bay) 2019 Artisanal Syrah

93/100 Points - Sam Kim Wine Orbit - New Zealand
4/5 Stars - Michael Cooper Michael Cooper’s Buyer's Guide -
95/100 Points - Cameron Douglas MS CamDouglasMS.com - New Zealand
"Aromas of fresh red raspberries, wood spices, black currant, fresh lightly smoked meats, some peppercorn and baking spices and plum - in other words - complex. Fresh, youthful, fruity and precise on the palate with flavours that reflect the bouquet. Firm tannins and a backbone of acidity. Moderate new oak impact adds to the texture and weight. Lengthy, youthful, tense and dry. A well made wine that requires some cellar time showcase its complexity. Decant for service before 2023 with best drinking from 2023 through 2028+."

The wine is medium to deep red, with aromas that showcase the red fruit elements of Hawkes Bay Syrah, including raspberries with undertones of wood spice and pepper. In the mouth the wine is mouth soft and generous with flavours like the nose of red berries and jam, with an underlying acidity providing elegance and length. Delicious as a young wine it will also reward cellaring.

Esk Valley (Hawkes Bay) 2020 Merlot Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon

"This wine was blended from grapes grown within the renown Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District. These deep stony soils have excellent drainage and low vigour, ideal for the production of high-quality red wine. Our vineyard sites are close planted and yields per vine are kept low to maximise quality.

This is a smooth and elegant Gimblett Gravels blend. Densely coloured, it has a bouquet of red cherry, blackberry, dried herbs and cedar from barrel maturation. It is soft and generous in nature and can be enjoyed as a youthful wine, but possesses sufficient tannin to age gracefully for many years."

4 Stars - Cuisine Specialty Whites Tasting, October 2020 (2019 Vintage)

This is a stunning example of Chenin Blanc, a classic Loire valley grape.

Winemakers note
"This is a rich and full-bodied style of Chenin Blanc. It showcases the yellow fruit nature of Chenin Blanc, with notes of pineapple, quince and honey evident. The wine is complex with a small amount of residual sugar providing richness in a Vouvray demi-sec style. Delicious as a young wine, the wine will also gain further complexity with time in the bottle."

Esk Valley (Marlborough) 2021 Sauvignon Blanc

Gold Medal - New Zealand International Wine Competition

Winemakers Comment
"This a very aromatic and intensely flavoured wine true to its Marlborough origins. Given the warm harvest conditions, the flavours lean toward ripe tropical fruits, with hints of green fruits and fresh herbs. It is a rich and full-flavoured style with a crisp dry finish which provides freshness and length to the palate."
