Giesen (Marlborough) 2017 Clayvin Chardonnay

Gold Medal - Melbourne International Wine Comp

5 Stars & 96 points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2020
"Immensely complex and engaging, the bouquet shows white flesh nectarine, lemon pith, roasted cashew and vanilla characters with a lovely nuance of gun smoke. It's concentrated and multi-layered on the palate, delivering terrific fruit power together with splendid complexity, finishing magnificently long and expansive. At its best: now to 2030."

VINEYARD HISTORY Planted in 1993, the north-facing Clayvin site is organically farmed and employs biodynamic principles. The vineyard is high-density planted to reduce vigour of the vines, promote root structure, and deliver highly-concentrated fruit. The Giesen brothers purchased the site in 2015 following a long-term lease to ensure they could continue producing these exceptional wines

Giesen (Marlborough) 2017 The Brothers Late Harvest 375ml

Always a big medal winner infact a whopping 25 gold medals and 14 trophies over the last three vintages.

This is the latest release of this special wine.

"Sauvignon Blanc fruit for this wine from our Alma St Vineyard in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough. The vineyard is netted to protect it, which allows the grapes to hang on the vine for longer. Eventually the fruit shrivels which gives the concentrated sugars late harvest wines are known for. This is when the fruit is ready for hand picking, normally late May.

Grape-stomping is part of the method of maceration used in traditional winemaking. Rather than using a wine press, grapes are crushed by having barefoot participants repeatedly stomp on them in vats to release their juices and begin fermentation. Our cellar team love making this wine - it's a fun day stomping on the grapes!"

Aromas of passionfruit, guava and honeysuckle with a luscious, concentrated palate exuding vibrant tropical fruit flavours.  A must-try wine.

Giesen Estate (Marlborough) 2022 Sauvignon Blanc

Fruit for this wine is from Wairau and Awatere Valleys, Marlborough.
Winemaking aimed to emphasise the vineyards and amplify the wonderful fruit. Following a gentle pressing, carefully selected yeasts added to the juice to start fermentation. These yeasts were chosen to help build texture, weight and aromatics. Parcels of fruit were batch fermented with fermentation stopped when the perfect balance of natural sweetness and classic Marlborough acidity was achieved.

Crisp and refreshing, expect vibrant tropical and citrus flavours and freshly cut herbs from this generous Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Giesen Estate (NZ) 2021 Pinot Gris

Each parcel of Pinot Gris is harvested at optimum ripeness. Short skin contact adds flavour and texture to the wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, we used very select aromatic yeasts to make the wine more intense. We stopped the ferment early to retain a small amount of acidity and natural sugar to give the wine it’s off-dryness. The wine was held on lees for two months to help build mouth feel & texture, then blended and bottled.

Giesen Estate (NZ) 2021 Riesling

Gold Medal - Melbourne International wine competition

This Riesling has become a New Zealand legend, highly awarded and the country’s number one seller. It’s not surprising given its striking notes of lime and mandarin and its delicious, succulent juicy sweetness finished with a clean acid backbone.

The 2021 Estate Riesling is a blend from two of New Zealand’s outstanding cool climate grape growing regions. Waipara, with its cool, dry climate and good sunshine and Marlborough, renowned for its long warm days and cool evenings. With yields down in both regions, the remaining grapes enjoyed a long growing season helped by settled weather leading into harvest. The 2021 vintage will be long remembered as an outstanding vintage, with wines bursting with concentrated flavours.

"Giesen are known for excellent Riesling, with a reputation for producing the top selling Riesling in New Zealand. Thanks to the bounty of the 2020 harvest we have been able to create a unique, limited release Riesling using grapes from Awatere Valley. We fermented and matured a portion of the blend in granite.

Expect elderflower and lime on the nose with subtle tropical fruit. The palate bursts with sweet mandarin and lemon sherbet. Tight acidity gives the wine a delicious raciness, while the textured palate and residual sweetness provide richness and a finish that is balanced and moreish."
