Lawson's Dry Hills (Marlborough) 2020 Pinot Noir

4 Stars - Cuisine Magazine
Produced from our own Waihopai Valley vineyard and the adjacent Barnsley vineyard, these two sites grow beautiful parcels of fruit that produce expressive wines with depth and finesse. This Pinot Noir is richly aromatic, showing ripe red berry and cherry characters, complemented by sweet, spicy oak notes. The palate is opulent with soft ripe tannins and great concentration that together produce a powerful, elegant wine.

Lawson's Dry Hills (Marlborough) 2022 Chardonnay

A beautifully structured, grown up style of wine, gentle treatment and little oak treatment.

Mineral, peachy and lean...............

Ripe stone fruits, citrus, brioche, roast cashew and hint of savory mealiness. The palate is dry and flinty with some lovely fleshiness and weight. Smooth with fresh citrus characters and a warm richness balanced by a crisp acidity.

Lawson's Dry Hills (Marlborough) 2022 Gewurztraminer

Winery note

"Very pale straw in colour while the aromas offer the classic, lifted potpourri florals with lychee and roses with a pronounced thread of fresh lemon. The palate is soft, round and luscious but with wonderful weight and depth. Turkish delight flavours add to the wine's complexity and give way to ripe tropical fruits on the mid-palate while the finish has a pithy lemon character. Long, concentrated and highly memorable."

Lawson's Dry Hills (Marlborough) 2022 Reserve Chardonnay

95 Points - Cameron Douglas

Winery note
"From our coastal vineyard where the sea breezes moderate temperatures, this block is situated on the banks of the Wairau Diversion. The silts and river stones combined with our 16 – 20- year-old Mendoza clone vines are the perfect match. The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed and the juice settled briefly before being racked to French oak barrels (22% new). The juice was fermented ‘wild’ and encouraged to undergo full malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked from barrel and blended prior to being bottled here at the winery some ten months later."

This wine offers enticing aromas of lemon, honeysuckle and brioche with subtle hints of smoke and bees’ wax. The palate is rich and is full flavoured - a balance of concentrated, ripe fruit and toasty French oak offset by a thread of fresh, citrus acidity

Lawson's Dry Hills (Marlborough) 2022 Sauvignon Blanc

Winery description

"Our 2022 Estate Sauvignon Blanc is bursting with lemon, passionfruit and ripe tropical fruit, tied together with layers of fresh, green, herbaceous characters. The palate has lovely fruit concentration, balanced acidity and a gentle, dry finish. Each block was picked when they reached maximum passionfruit characters and while the acidity was bright and crisp. The grapes were gently pressed before being fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected cultured yeast, while 4% was fermented with wild yeast in old French barriques."

Lawson's Dry Hills (Marlborough) 2023 Pinot Gris

New release

Winery description
"Pear, red apple and attractive floral aromas are matched with lemon curd and hints of spice. The palate is just off dry and medium bodied with lovely flavours of orchard fruits coated in a supple texture and with a fresh, uplifting finish. Vineyards and viticulture This wine was made from two blocks in our Southern Valleys vineyards and a third block on the edge of Blenheim township. To have great flavour in our Pinot Gris, we undertake intensive management in the vineyards, including bunch thinning, leaf plucking and colour thinning. We then leave harvesting as late as possible, to encourage flavour development, while still preserving the sugar/acid balance.Food Match Spicy foods such as Thai curries coconut based dishes, salmon, pâté, creamy pasta, roast pork or ideal just as a glass of wine on its own"

Winery note
"This wine’s aromatics cover just about every character we see in great Marlborough sauvignon: passionfruit, ripe herbal notes, lime, lifted florals, melon and more. Packed with concentrated flavours, the wine is well-balanced, bright and fresh with a fleshy, textural mid-palate and chalky, lingering finish. The grapes for this wine came from our Waihopai vineyard, the Woodward block in the Wairau Valley (just a few hundred metres from the winery) and our Blind River vineyard in the Awatere."
