Main Divide (Canterbury) 2019 Pinot Noir

92 Points -  Cameron Douglas MS | camdouglasms.com
"Aromas of dark berries toasty brown spices of oak. Flavours on the palate of dark cherries and plums, some black currant then vanilla and nut. Fine tannins with a mild chalky texture, a balanced and refined palate with fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet, contrasting acid line and lengthy satisfying finish."

Upon release it is deep ruby in colour. A complex patchwork of both red fruit and savoury aromas unfurl from the glass, with raspberry, cherry, and pomegranate soon giving way to mushroom, leather, vanilla and baking spice. Generous fruit weight is backed by bright acidity and silky tannins that rapidly expand in the mouth. This gives the wine a pleasing tension that excites the palate, creating length and setting up for a rewarding finish.

"Fabulously fruited and gorgeously fragrant, the wine shows golden peach, candied apple, honey, orange peel and subtle spice notes on the nose, leading to a succulent palate that's richly textured and persistent. It's opulent and flavoursome with loads of tasty flavours. Style: Medium. At its best: now to 2023."

On release it is pale gold, with an enticing bouquet of stone fruit, green apple, blossom and potpourri. In the mouth there is satisfying weight and concentration, balanced with refreshing acidity and minerality that creates a lively tension to complement the wine’s off dry finish.

Main Divide (Waipara) 2018 Merlot Cabernet

On release the wine has a deep and vibrant ruby colour. The generous aromas and flavours suggest wild blackberries, purple plums and cassis with hints of vanilla pod, cigar box and dark chocolate. While it is generously mouth filling and broad shouldered it is also well rounded with ripe velvety tannins and a lingering finish.

Main Divide (Waipara) 2019 Gewurztraminer

93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, June 2020 (2019 Vintage)

Winery description

"A classic North Canterbury summer then enabled this smaller crop to mature beautifully. Accelerated ripening allowed harvest to take place slightly earlier than usual, and favourable autumn weather ensured the grapes were picked in perfect condition.

The wine is lemon-straw in colour, with intense varietal aromas of lychee, quince, ginger, honeysuckle and spice. The palate is rich and unctuous, yet there remains a lively freshness and vibrancy. Pre-ferment skin contact has added structure and ripe phenolics, giving the wine satisfying length and balancing its off dry finish."

The colour is deep lemon, with an inviting bouquet of ripe peach, nashi pear, and lemon curd, underlaid with mixed spice, honeysuckle, and a touch of flint. The mouthfeel is soft and rounded, supported by subtle sweetness and bright acidity that sets up for an impressively lengthy finish. Generous and flavourful yet delivered with finesse.

Main Divide (Waipara) 2020 Rosé

18.5 Points - Joelle Thomson

18 Points - Candice Chow Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
Bright, pale blonde with a hint of salmon, even colour throughout. Light effervescent on the side of the glass. The nose is expressive and welcoming, aromas of rose petals, dark herbs melded with field berries, citrus and zest. Lightbodied, dry to taste, nuances of strawberries, raspberries, red currants are fresh, linger with a lifted perfume of petals, thyme and citrus zest. Concentrated fruit and ripe flavours project on the palate with intensity; lively acidity flow with a fine thread of minerality along a fine-textured line. Zesty details lifted to a vibrant, dry finish

Made in the slightly out of the box style, in true Donaldson family way. This is a super refreshing and concentrated style of rose.

Salmon pink, with fragrant aromas of strawberries, red currents & cranberry. On the palate it is dry and finely textured, with fresh and vibrant minerality. The influence of the Pinot Noir ensures the wine remains fleshy and supple, while the two Cabernets contribute to aroma and structure.
