Clearview (Hawkes Bay) 2020 Coastal Chardonnay

92 Points, Top Rank, Top Value and Buy of the Week - The Real Review Bob Cambell MW

Clearview knows a thing or two about this variety, so rest assured you’ll not be disappointed with the words "Clearview & Chardonnay" together on a label.

A fruity chardonnay, balanced with a touch of oak is hugely popular and an ideal anytime wine. Partial barrel fermentation offers complexity, delivering a characteristic purity underpinned by natural acidity. Oyster shell aromatics give way to a white peach and pear flavour profile.

Coopers Creek (Gisborne) 2017 Albarino

93 Points - Decanter, Rebecca Gibb MW
"Coopers Creek Albarino is sourced from Doug Bell's vineyard in Gisborne, and has been utterly convincing since its very first vintage in 2011. The most recent vintage, tasted pre-bottling, is everything you'd want from a Rias Baixas Albarino: full bodied, round and complete. It's whole-bunch pressed and fermented using only the free-run juice. Pure and delicate, it has sweet, succulent peach fruit and an almost almond-like scent, making for an alluring package". Drinking Window 2018 - 2021

Winery note
"Albariño hails from the North West of Spain and Northern Portugal. The block was hand harvested on 24th March 2017. Tank fermentation was followed by a period of lees aging before bottling on 20th March 2018. This wine is based on free run juice from the Spanish ‘Mass Selection’ clone, with a couple of barrels of pressings blended in immediately pre-bottling to add an extra textural element.

Pure and fresh, with hints of citrus and peach. Medium bodied and zesty. This wine has a brilliant acid line and this gives the palate real length.
Perfect with seafood, chicken and paella"

Thus far, our Albariños have been aging more slowly than we expected. The wine is delightful in its youth, but may well age beautifully into the medium term."

Domaine Rewa (Otago) 2019 Chardonnay

5 Stars 19/20 - Candice Chow Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
"Bright, pale straw-yellow, even colour throughout. The nose is gently full and elegant, penetrating aromas of stonefruit, melon, citrus, along with mineral melded with subtlely well-proportioned custard, raw nuts and spices. Medium-bodied, lush fruit of peach, nectarine and melon fills the palate, lemon sherbet and zest added freshness. Flavours grow in intensity, unfolding refined toasty oak with white spice and a little cream linger to a long, sustained refined finish. The wine is elegant and delicate; crisp acidity thread flows smoothly with chalky phenolic, adorn by a little creaminess and reflecting fruit's purity. This harmonious and sleek Chardonnay with fruit's purity, lacy acidity and a chalky mineral mouthfeel is already delicious. Match with whitebait fritters and soft cheese over the next 5+ years. Handpicked Mendoza and Clone 15 Chardonnay, whole bunch pressed to tank, settled overnight, then transferred to French oak barriques for wild fermentation, 13.5% alc. Aged in oak for 9 months, 36% new oak, MLF occurred, and lees stirred weekly. No fining. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Mar 2021 RRP $55"

Elegant and just divine.

5.5 hectare vineyard planted in 1997, on the fluvial terraces beneath the Pisa Range with a mix of varieties, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Only the finest grapes are used to produce the wines for Domaine Rewa so production is limited.

Don David (Argentina) 2020 Reserve Torrontes

88 Points - Wine Enthusiast

91 Points - James Suckling

If you want a wine adventure that won't disappoint, try Torrontes!

Torrontes is THE white wine of Argentina and this is a sublime example of the variety.  The colour is intense and bright yellow with golden edges. It has delicate aromas with flower presence, mainly roses. Orange notes blend together with toasted bread due to the touch of oak. The taste is pure finesse and elegance with a hint of the exotic. Good acidity with the freshness of citrus.

This wine matches well with Asian food of course, but also try it with smoked meats and seafood.  It is a wonderfully versatile wine.

Esk valley (Hawkes Bay) 2020 Artisanal Chardonnay

93 Points - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
4.5 Stars - Michael Cooper, Michael Cooper’s Buyer's Guide
95 Points - Cameron Douglas MS World of Wine

"A bouquet with complexity and intrigue, depth and curiosity. Tense and youthful with flavours of white and yellow tree fruits, a touch of grapefruit, lees, mineral and spice.
Excellent texture with a core of fruit surrounded by oak, fine wood tannins and contrasting acidity. Well made, but does need some time to develop more harmonious transitions.
Well made and likely best drinking mid to late 2022 through 2026+."

A rich and full flavoured Hawkes Bay Chardonnay. Its flavour profile is a mix of peach, grilled nuts, butter, grapefruit with a subtle oak spice. It is both complex and delicious and a classic expression of Hawkes Bay Chardonnay.

Fermented using wild yeast in French oak barriques. Fifty per cent of the wine was allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation which softened the wine and added further complexity. The wine was left on its lees undergoing regular stirring before being blended and bottled in February 2021.

Esk Valley (Hawkes Bay) 2020 Chardonnay

This is a medium bodied and elegant Hawkes Bay Chardonnay. Its flavour profile is a mix of peach, grilled nuts, grapefruit, butter and subtle oak spice. It is both complex and delicious.

The fruit for this wine was sourced from vineyards planted in three of Hawkes Bay’s many sub regions. Bay View fruit provides ripe stonefruit characters while our vineyard sites inland on cooler river terraces above the Tutaekuri and Ngaruroro Rivers bring acidity and flinty grapefruit notes. Shoot thinning, leaf plucking and bunch thinning are all practised in the pursuit of quality. This wine sees plenty of French oak and undergoes wild fermentation for added complexity and character.

Ideally suited to rich seafood dishes or white meats such as pork or chicken, but equally delicious as an aperitif or with hard cheeses.

Esk Valley (Hawkes Bay) 2021 Pinot Gris

This is a rich style of Pinot Gris with aromas and flavours of baked pear, honey, citrus and apricot. It is mouthfilling and complex, finishing long and dry. A small portion of barrel fermentation has added richness and complexity to this powerful, textural and highly drinkable wine.

The grapes were harvested in the morning while temperatures were cool and processed as quickly and gently as possible to avoid colour and tannin pick up from the pink Pinot Gris berries. The juice was settled bright before fermentation in both tank and large old oak barrels. The finished wine was left on its yeast lees with regular stirring until bottling in July 2021.

Falconhead (Hawkes Bay) 2021 Viognier

This is an amazingly good buy. Viognier (Vee-on-yay) is a notoriusly difficult grape to grow so very rarely do we see such a bargain buy from this delightfully oppulent grape!

The previous vintage took out Gold Medal and Trophy at the Royal easter show. Produced by the team behind Morton Estate, before the brand was sold.

A very aromatic wine with aromas of ripe apricot, white flowers and a hint of vanilla spice. The palate is full, rich and layered with complexity. Giesen (Marlborough) 2015 The Brothers Late Harvest 375ml

Always a big medal winner infact a whopping 25 gold medals and 14 trophies over the last three vintages.

This is the latest release of this special wine.

"Sauvignon Blanc fruit for this wine from our Alma St Vineyard in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough. The vineyard is netted to protect it, which allows the grapes to hang on the vine for longer. Eventually the fruit shrivels which gives the concentrated sugars late harvest wines are known for. This is when the fruit is ready for hand picking, normally late May.

Grape-stomping is part of the method of maceration used in traditional winemaking. Rather than using a wine press, grapes are crushed by having barefoot participants repeatedly stomp on them in vats to release their juices and begin fermentation. Our cellar team love making this wine - it's a fun day stomping on the grapes!"

Aromas of passionfruit, guava and honeysuckle with a luscious, concentrated palate exuding vibrant tropical fruit flavours.  A must-try wine.

Giesen (Marlborough) 2016 Clayvin Chardonnay

5 Stars - Yvonne Lorkin
95/100 - Cameron Douglas MS

Established in 1993, Clayvin Vineyard was Marlborough’s first commercial hillside vineyard. North facing, the vineyard planting is high density with 5,500 vines per hectare, compared with the typical Marlborough planting of 2000 - 2,500 vines per hectare. This density creates natural competition among the vines, reducing vigour, promoting root structure and intensity of flavour.

Selectively hand-picked to ensure the ‘harvest window’ for each sub-block was spot on and the fruit arrived at the winery in optimum condition. PRESSING/ FERMENTATION Whole bunch pressed with the free run juice settled and transferred to oak. Wild yeast starter creating a warm natural fermentation. Fermentation in 1000 litre German Oak ‘Fuder’ barrels, rested on lees for 11 months prior to racking, wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation. Matured in oak for 10 months.

Giesen (Marlborough) 2019 The August Sauvignon Blanc

93 Points - Cameron Douglas
"This is a barrel-fermented, lees aged and bottled aged release. Aromas are of a complete wine - with scents of baked peach and dried grapefruit peel, apple, a touch of quince, a leesy autolysis and gentle nutty quality from French oak. Lovely satin texture on the palate with contrasting acidity. The core of fruit, ferment and aged completeness this wine presents showcases the aromas suggested in the bouquet along with a fine nutty-oaky quality, mealy fine mouthfeel and a long finish. Balanced and well made. A food wine or alternative to chardonnay." (2018 vintage)

Giesens' Top of the pile Sauvignon Blanc! A barrel fermented beauty!!

A MARK OF THE MAN August Giesen’s outrageous legacy is inextricably tied to the Giesen story. So producing a wine elevated to its richest expression, with meticulous care from our winemakers, seemed a fitting tribute to a legend. Dry and flinty with rich, ripe tropical notes and layers of toasty almond and brioche flavours, it’s distinctive alright.

Fruit was hand-harvested in the early morning and whole bunch pressed. The wine was matured for eleven months in third-use German oak Fuder barrels and seasoned French oak barriques.
