Complexity and intensity are the hallmarks of the Levels Chardonnay and the 2016 has both in spades. Toasted nuts, brioche, lemon meringue and a hint of flint are found on the nose whilst the palate consists of ripe rock melon, golden queen peach and orange rind. Power, poise and panache a-plenty for what is fast becoming one of New Zealand’s most sought after top end Chardonnays.
The juice was barrel fermented (50% Wild ferment) and spent 10 months on lees where it was stirred every 1 – 2 weeks. The final blend was comprised of six barrels. Five of these were Mendoza clone Chardonnay with the other being Clone 6. The oak regime consists of 33% new French oak and 50% one year old French oak.
