Lawson's Dry Hills (Marlborough) 2018 Gewurztraminer
Trophy - Millesime Bio Trophy 2020 Winestate Awards 2020 December 2020
4 Stars - Michael Cooper's Buyer's Guide 2020 January 2021
One of the country’s most impressive Gewürztraminers. Grown in the Home Block and nearby Woodward Vineyard, at the foot of the Wither Hills, it is typically harvested at about 24 brix and mostly fermented in stainless steel tanks; a key part of the blend (about 15 per cent) is given ‘the full treatment’, with a high-solids, indigenous yeast ferment in seasoned French oak barriques, malolactic fermentation and lees-stirring. The youthful 2018 vintage (4.5*) is perfumed and weighty, with vibrant pear, lychee and spice flavours, gentle sweetness (6.7 grams/litre of residual sugar), and excellent delicacy, harmony and length. Best drinking 2021+.
93 Points - Cameron Douglas MS October 2020 Striking bouquet
"Fragrant, intensely fruited, spicy and varietal. Flavours of exotic fruits steeped in flowers and spices. Apples and fresh lychees, lemon candy and roses. Silky texture with medium acidity, a core of fruit, loaded with spices and a lengthy finish. Well-made and ready to pair with all white fleshed foods and vegan dishes. best from today and through 2024."
