Akarua (Otago) 2022 Pinot Noir

Akarua Pinot Noir has a medium to dark purple with pink hues. The nose reveals an expressive perfume, blackberry, violet and a hint of oak spice. Medium bodied with a lovely sweet red fruit front palate with red cherry, plum and raspberry. Nicely balanced with very fine tannin, savoury mid palate and a very long fed berry finish. This wine has an excellent ageing potential of over 10 years (2032+).

Intense and lively ruby red color. On the nose are rich fruity aromas of plum and cherries, accompanied by toasted notes and coffee from French and American oak aging. On the palate it is concentrated, with soft and elegant tannins and a pleasing final persistence. Cabernet Sauvignon was the first varietal that Luis Felipe Edwards produced from their site in Chile's Central Valley.  A deliciously ripe Cabernet, bursting with black fruit flavour. Try this with Grilled lamb cutlets.

Alto Los Romeros was the name given many years ago to the wild Rosemary that grow on the estate in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. At a height of 700 meters the site offers stunning panoramic views across to nearby snow capped Andes Mountains.

Carmenere - recognised as Chile's own red varietal, and this is a stonkingly fine example of this Merlot-esque grape.

On the nose it is expressive and intense, distinguished with notes of blackberry, plum, and black pepper. On the palate these aromas mix with notes of vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Fresh and persistent finish.

Alto Los Romeros wines are approachable, fruit forward, easy in style, and can be enjoyed on their own or with a variety of foods. The grapes come from Chile's winegrowing heartland- the Central Valley, and are expertly managed to enhance the fruit characteristics of each individual grape variety.

Intense red color with violet tints. In the nose it presents aromas of fresh red fruits with soft notes of dried fruit. On the palate it has a nice medium body, with fresh acidity, soft tannins and notes of dark fruit with a long persistence. Big on fruit and full of flavour, yet dances lightly on the pallet.

Carmenere is well known to be Chiles' national variety. Originally a Bordeaux varietal now flourishes here. Producing Medium weight wines showing Plummy red fruit flavours and gentle tannins. Loved the world over.

This wine presents an intense ruby red color with clean and deep hues of violet. On the nose are aromas of spices and dried figs, harmonized with those of coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla. Also, a soft touch of black pepper. On the palate it is complex, with a fresh acidity, high persistence with soft and round tannins.

A classical expression of Marlborough Pinot Noir but with the added complexity and rich texture that you can expect from Ara wines. A bright and juicy Merlot with an attractively ripe plummy nose. A rounded spicy palate with generous plum and spices fruit flavours leading to a fresh finish. Merlot grapes are sourced from long standing vineyards on the Swartland/Wellington borders and also the Breede River Valley. Low rainfall, warm weather, mainly decomposed granite soils and low trellised vines all adds really interesting complexity to the final wine. Malolactic fermentation follows before the wine is left on its lees to extract extra depth and soft tannins. A touch of of oak adds depth of flavour. Perfect with BBQ dishes Grilled lamb, pasta with tomato sauce.

An expression of invidivuals regions within the greater Barossa area. Greenock sits on the north western outskirts of Nuriootpa, in the heart of the Barossa Valley.
The dark, brooding regional characters of plum, red cherry and liquorice are all to the fore of this wine. The palate is focused and linear, with dark bitter chocolate notes and an elegant long persistent finish. We recommend cellaring for 10 years.

Familia Valdelana (Rioja) 2020 Crianza

Here at winesale we have been importing Bodegas Valdelana wines from Rioja for a number of years. We are ever impressed with the clean and modern style of wines from this classic region. Blown away with the ever astonishing prices.... Valdelana is located in the village of Elciego,  in the region known as Rioja Alavesa. A family owned and operated estate now in its fith generation. Riddled with history, the estate boasts spectacular underground cellars dating from the 15th century.

Deep cherry-red colour; clean and bright. Fruity on the nose, with some balsamic notes and some oak in the background. Blueberries and wild blackberries integrated with oaky notes vanilla or cinnamon. Fruit and oak perfectly blended on the palate; powerful and elegant wine. Long and intense aftertaste.

Vines of over 40 years grown in chalk, clay soils. Crianza wines are aged for 12 months, using French oak barrels (50%) and American oak barrels (50%)

The Four Virtues Zinfandel is from the Lodi region of California's vast Central Valley. It is a region quickly emerging as one of California's most exciting wine destinations.

The Zinfandel is aged in heavily charred Bourbon oak barrels - the barrels impart nuanced layers of caramel, vanilla and toasty oak to the wine’s naturally intense
dark berry character. The result is a big, big wine! Robust, deliciously complex and silky smooth.

Intense and full-bodied with red fruit, blackberry and spice. Soft mouthfeel and tannins with a lingering smoky finish. Bright raspberry, cherry and juicy blackberry with hints of caramel, vanilla and toasty oak.

Aged with French and American oak, then finished in heavily charred Bourbon barrels.

This is a Pinot Noir with wonderful red cherry, spices, bramble fruit and lifted florals. The fine tannins balance well with its acid backbone creating a generous, smooth wine

The fruit we select from the Wairau Valley gives the blend bright red fruit flavours. Compared to the Wairau Valley, the Awatere Valley is cooler at night giving fruit with intense dark colour and wild herb complexity

Try pairing this wine with; Crispy five spice scented Peking duck pancakes with hoisin sauce and Asian greens.

Grant Burge (Barossa) 2019 Distinction Filsell Shiraz

The Grant Burge Wines Filsell vineyard of near century old vines is considered one of the best vineyards in the Barossa Valley, and consistently produces fruit of incredible intensity and concentration. Planted in 1920, the Filsell vineyard also produces some of the fruit for the highly acclaimed Meshach Shiraz, making the Filsell Shiraz a sought-after younger brother to loyal followers.

Nose: Dark chocolate, mocha, plum with caramel lift. Sweet spice and cacao nib. Although serious Shiraz black fruits show the layers are extended with earth and vanilla.

Palate: The tannins are firm but fine, with a full weight and texture carrying liquorice, black spice and some juniper. Full with intense flavours, the wine carries through for an intensely long finish 

Grant Burge (Barossa) 2019 Distinction Holy Trinity GSM

The Holy Trinity is a traditional blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre. The fruit for this wine is Barossa grown, predominantly handpicked from old, dry-grown vines which range from 35 to 90 years old. 

Brilliant and vibrant ruby red colour.

A playful combination of candied apple, raspberry jubes, frangipane and lemon curd. In the background you see notes of cinnamon and clove.

Medium to full bodied, fresh and vibrant with enough tannin to shape the wine. Acidity carries the wine through to a clean, slightly mineral and lengthy finish. Lovely hints of fresh raspberries and cinnamon linger on the palate.
